       Purpose: Tuina is a nonpharmacological modality for pain relief that has found applications in the treatment of several pain disorders. Tuina analgesia has been increasingly studied; however, few studies have focused on the previous publication trends, prevalent research areas, collaborations, and other factors. This study aimed to systematically analyze research trends and hot topics in the field of tuina analgesia over the past 30 years, using bibliometric analysis, to inform future research.
    Methods: The web of science database was searched for literature on tuina analgesia from 1992-2023. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to analyze annual publication volumes, countries, institutions, journals and CO-cited journals, authorship, articles, and keywords and their relevance, and to perform co-occurrence and clustering analyses.
    Results: A total of 621 literature elements were included in the analysis. The annual volume of publications has increased steadily in recent years. The top three high-yielding countries were the United States, China, and Canada, respectively. The top three institutional outputs were from Shanghai University of Chinese medicine, Beijing University of Chinese medicine, and McMaster University, respectively. Notably, there was an imbalance between national outputs and centrality, with higher centrality in the United States (0.35) and lower in China (0.01). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews was the journal with the most publications (22), and PAIN was the most influential co-cited journals (publications=306). Moreover, current research in this field was dominated by studies on Tuina for relieving postoperative pain, the effectiveness of Tuina analgesia, and Tuina treatment for pain accompanied by anxiety.
    Conclusion: This study employed bibliometrics to analyze the literature on Tuina for pain treatment over a 30-year period, identifying potential collaborators, institutions, hot topics, and future research trends that will inform potential future directions.

      Journal of Orthopaedics® is the premier Orthopaedic journal from India and contributes towards the improvement of the quality of Orthopaedic health care. It proudly received its first Journal Impact Factor of 1.5 in June 2023. Its Journal Level Metrics and Citation Analysis have shown an impressive growth. Citation Trend analysis provides a benchmark to gauge and quantify the scientific impact of journals in academic publishing.

       BACKGROUND: Scientific productivity is often evaluated by means of cumulative citation metrics. Different metrics produce different incentives. The H-index assigns full credit from a citation to each coauthor, and thus may encourage multiple collaborations in mid-list author roles. In contrast, the Hm-index assigns only a fraction 1/k of citation credit to each of k coauthors of an article, and thus may encourage research done by smaller teams, and in first or last author roles. Whether H and Hm indices are influenced by different authorship patterns has not been examined.
    METHODS: Using a publicly available Scopus database, I examined associations between the numbers of research articles published as single, first, mid-list, or last author between 1990 and 2019, and the H-index and the Hm-index, among 18,231 leading researchers in the health sciences.
    RESULTS: Adjusting for career duration and other article types, the H-index was negatively associated with the number of single author articles (partial Pearson r -0.06) and first author articles (-0.08), but positively associated with the number of mid-list (0.64) and last author articles (0.21). In contrast, all associations were positive for the Hm-index (0.04 for single author articles, 0.18 for first author articles, 0.24 for mid-list articles, and 0.46 for last author articles).
    CONCLUSION: The H-index and the Hm-index do not reflect the same authorship patterns: the full-credit H-index is predominantly associated with mid-list authorship, whereas the partial-credit Hm-index is driven by more balanced publication patterns, and is most strongly associated with last-author articles. Since performance metrics may act as incentives, the selection of a citation metric should receive careful consideration.

       BACKGROUND: Bibliometric analysis is a mature method for quantitative evaluation of academic productivity. In view of the rapid development of research in the field of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in the past decade, we used bibliometric methods to comprehensively analyze the literature in the field of SLE from 2013 to 2022.
    METHODS: The relevant literature in the field of SLE from 2013 to 2022 was screened in the Web of Science Core Collection database. After obtaining and sorting out the data, CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to visualize the relevant data, and SPSS software was used for scientific statistics.
    RESULTS: A total of 18,450 publications were included in this study. The number of articles published over the past 10 years has generally shown an upward trend, while Altmetric attention scores have also shown a clear upward trend in general and in most countries. Citation analysis and Altmetric analysis can mutually prove and supplement the influence of papers. The USA, China, Japan, Italy, and the UK are the most productive countries, but China and Japan are significantly inferior to other countries in terms of research influence. Four of the top ten authors are at the center of the collaboration network. LUPUS is the most contributing journal. The theme of systemic lupus erythematosus research mainly focuses on the pathogenesis, treatment, and management of SLE, and the emerging trend is related research on machine learning and immune cells.
    CONCLUSION: This study shows the research status of SLE, clarifies the main contributors in this field, discusses and analyzes the research hotspots and trends in this field, and provides reference for further research in this field to promote the development of SLE research. Key Points • Through bibliometric analysis, Altmetric analysis, and visual analysis, we reveal the global productivity characteristics of SLE-related papers in the past 10 years. • The number of global SLE-related studies has shown a significant increase, indicating that SLE is still a hot topic and deserves further study. • Citation analysis and Altmetric analysis can mutually prove and supplement the influence of papers, and the attention of related literature among non-professional researchers is increasing. • The theme of SLE research mainly focuses on the pathogenesis, treatment, and management of SLE. The emerging trend is machine learning and immune cells, which may provide new strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of SLE in the future.

       Background: Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor. Traditional treatments for glioma include surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and bevacizumab therapy, but their efficacies are limited. Immunotherapy provides a new direction for glioma treatment. This study aimed to summarize the knowledge structure and research hotspots of glioma immunotherapy through a bibliometric analysis.
    Method: Publications pertaining to glioma immunotherapy published during the period from 1st January 1990 to 27th March 2023 were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Bibliometric analysis and visualization were performed using the CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology, and R software. The hotspots and prospects of glioma immunotherapy research were illustrated via analyzing the countries, institutions, journals, authors, citations and keywords of eligible publications.
    Results: A total of 1,929 publications pertaining to glioma immunotherapy in 502 journals were identified as of 27th March 2023, involving 9,505 authors from 1,988 institutions in 62 countries. Among them were 1,285 articles and 644 reviews. Most of publications were produced by the United States. JOURNAL OF NEURO-ONCOLOGY published the majority of publications pertaining to glioma immunotherapy. Among the authors, Lim M contributed the largest number of publications. Through analyzing keyword bursts and co-cited references, immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) were identified as the research focus and hotspot.
    Conclusion: Using a bibliometric analysis, this study provided the knowledge structure and research hotspots in glioma immunotherapy research during the past 33 years, with ICIs staying in the current and future hotspot. Our findings may direct the research of glioma immunotherapy in the future.

       Objectives: Bibliometric analysis is one of the most prevalent methods for analyzing and predicting research trends of particular subjects. Through a bibliometric analysis, the present study sought to look into and depict the hotspots and research trends in hip arthroplasty research over the previous five years.
    Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was used to find studies on hip arthroplasty published between 2018 and 2022. The VOS viewer, Cite Space, and Bibliometrix were used to carry out the bibliometric study and network visualization.
    Results: During the last five years, 5,708 hip arthroplasty publications were cited 40,765 times. The United States and the Journal of Arthroplasty were the top countries and journals regarding the number of studies, respectively. The top 10 global high-impact documents were determined using the citation ranking and citation burst. The most frequently referenced research revealed the epidemiological aspects of hip arthroplasty, perioperative care after hip arthroplasty, COVID-19, periprosthetic joint infections, opioid medicines, stability, and osteonecrosis were the hot topics in hip arthroplasty research. Keyword burst analysis showed that the research trends in hip arthroplasty through 2022 were patient-reported outcome measures (PROM), depression, racial disparity, and artificial intelligence (AI). The analysis of the subject areas revealed the close connections and relationships between different subject areas, as demonstrated by the figures.
    Conclusion: The hip arthroplasty research community is very productive and highly centralized. Periprosthetic joint infection, dual-mobility cups, spinopelvic mobility, direct anterior approach, outpatient total hip arthroplasty, polyethylene, periprosthetic fracture, acetabular defects, tranexamic acid, developmental dysplasia of the hip, and safety-net hospitals were recent trends in hip arthroplasty research. Patient-reported outcome measures, depression, racial disparities, and AI were research hotspots in hip arthroplasty.

       Objectives: Advancements in nanotechnology have led to the widespread usage of nanoparticles in the endodontic field. This bibliometric study aimed to determine and analyze the top 100 most-cited articles about nanoparticles in endodontics from 2000 to 2022.
    Materials and Methods: A detailed electronic search was conducted on the "Clarivate Analytics Web of Science, All Databases" to receive the most-cited articles related to the topic. Articles were ranked in descending order based on their citation counts, and the first 100 were selected for bibliometric analysis. Parameters such as citation density, publication year, journal, country, institution, author, study design, study field, evidence level, and keywords were analyzed.
    Results: The top 100 most-cited articles received 4,698 citations (16-271) with 970.21 (1.91-181) citation density in total. Among decades, citations were significantly higher in 2011-2022 (p < 0.001). Journal of Endodontics had the largest number of publications. Canada and the University of Toronto made the highest contribution as country and institution, respectively. Anil Kishen was the 1 who participated in the largest number of articles. The majority of the articles were designed in vitro. The main study field was "antibacterial effect." Among keywords, "nanoparticles" followed by "Enterococcus faecalis" were used more frequently.
    Conclusions: Developments in nanotechnology had an impact on the increasing number of studies in recent years. This bibliometric study provides a comprehensive view of nanoparticle advances and trends using citation analysis.

      Anger and aggression are common sources of distress and impairment. There is, however, no available data on anger and aggression based on bibliometric analysis. This study uses bibliometric analysis to analyze research hotspots and trends in anger and aggression. Publications on anger and aggression within the last ten years were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. Using descriptive bibliometrics, journals, countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords in anger and aggression research were visually analyzed via CiteSpace. A total of 3114 articles were included, and studies on anger and aggression increased yearly. The publications are mainly from 106 countries led by the USA and 381 institutions led by Univ Penn. We identified 505 authors, where Emil F. Coccaro had the highest number of articles, while Buss A.H. was the most frequently co-cited author. AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR is the journal that bore most of the studies, while PLOS ONE was the most cited journal. Our analysis demonstrated that research on anger and aggression is flourishing. Behaviors of anger and aggression, risk factors, neural mechanisms, personality, and adolescence have been researched hotspots in the past ten years. Besides, victimization, drosophila melanogaster, psychopathic traits, and perpetration are emerging anger and aggression research trends.

      This paper aims to map the research landscape in equity and justice in transport and mobility, identifying key publications, authors, institutions, and interdisciplinary connections to inform future research and policy development. A systematic search of scientific articles on equity and justice in transport and mobility was conducted in the Web of Science, resulting in 759 selected articles that were analyzed using bibliometric and network analysis methods. The analysis reveals a growing trend in scientific production since 2013, with the Journal of Transport Geography, Transport Research Part A: Policy and Practice, and the Journal of Transport Policy being the most prominent journals. The most influential authors and institutions are identified, along with the most cited works. Keyword usage trends and thematic analysis show a shift in focus from environmental equity to urban transport, congestion, and accessibility. Cluster analyses highlight focal points and themes, such as accessibility, mobility, social aspects, transport and spatial equity, environmental justice, transport planning, active transport, and methodological evaluations. Co-citation networks reveal three major clusters with differing research focuses: Lukas K. & Martens K.; Litman T. and Currie, G., and Scwanen T. and Cresswell, T. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the existing knowledge in equity and justice in transport and mobility, enabling researchers and policymakers to identify areas requiring further exploration. Additionally, the paper fosters interdisciplinary connections and sets priorities for future research and policy development.

       BACKGROUND: Rectal cancer leads a major disease burden worldwide. Total mesorectal excision (TME) is the standard treatment for locally advanced or node-positive rectal cancer, while attempts to improve the surgery such as laparoscopic and transanal TME are widely used but have their inherent limitations. This bibliometric study analyzed research trends, cooperation and knowledge dissemination on TME over the past 20 years to inform future directions.
    METHODS: Relevant literature from 2003-2023 was extracted from Web of Science Core Collection and analyzed with VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R for publication patterns, countries, institutions, authors, and research hotspots.
    RESULTS: 5,345 related publications were included, with rising annual output and citations. The US and China contributed the most studies, while the Netherlands had greater influence. Leiden University ranked first in publications. Top authors were Heald, Kapiteijn, Sauer, Nagtegaal, and Peeters. Researches shifted from cancer-focused to patient-centered care and from radiotherapy/chemotherapy to advanced surgery. Multicenter trials became more common.
    CONCLUSION: Although the United States and China have the largest number of publications, it should be noted that the influence of these two countries in the field of TME research is not the highest, which does not match the number of publications. In addition, telemedicine, interdisciplinary, medical-industrial integration, etc. may be potential directions for future research in the field of TME.

       Objective: Pheochromocytoma is a rare catecholamine-producing neuroendocrine tumour originating from the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla or extra-adrenal paraganglia. However, there are few bibliometric studies on Pheochromocytoma. Therefore, this study was employed to summarize the global trends and current status in pheochromocytoma by bibliometric analysis.
    Materials and methods: The Web of Science (WOS) core collection database was searched for publications relating to pheochromocytoma from 2001 to 2021. Bibliometric analysis was used to examine the data, and Microsoft Excel was utilized to create bar graphs. In addition, VOSviewer was used to carry out co-authorship analysis, co-citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis. CiteSpace was used to analyze the keywords citation bursts.
    Results: A total of 8,653 publications published in 1,806 journals by 38,590 authors in 6,117 organizations from 100 countries/regions were included in our study. Among them, USA was the leading countries in terms of total publications and sum of time cited, whereas Eunice Kennedy Shriver Natl Inst Child Hlth & Hum was the leading institutions. The main publications for pheochromocytoma-related articles were Journal of clinical endocrinology &metabolism. Pacak karel and Eisenhofer Graeme were the main contributing authors. The studies on pheochromocytoma could be grouped into five clusters: Treatment, Mechanism, Etiology, Radiology and Hormones study. Moreover, the radiology study, etiology study and some specific keywords such germlines mutation, mesenchymal stem-cells, autophagy, neuroinflammation, neurotoxicity, and hemodynamic instability, may become the hot spots of future.
    Conclusion: Although the number of articles on pheochromocytoma has fluctuated slightly over the past 20 years, there has been an overall upward trend. In general, precision medicine research on pheochromocytoma, especially metastatic pheochromocytoma, in terms of diagnosis, treatment, and etiology will be a hot research topic in the future. This study helps to understand the research perspectives, hot spots and trends of pheochromocytoma and provide new insight and a basis for future pheochromocytoma research quickly.

      Alternate-day fasting (ADF) is becoming more popular since it may be a promising diet intervention for human health. Our study aimed to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to investigate current publication trends and hotspots in the field of ADF. Publications regarding ADF were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. VOSviewer 1.6.16 and Online Analysis Platform were used to analyze current publication trends and hotspots. In total, there were 184 publications from 362 institutions and 39 countries/regions, which were published in 104 journals. The most productive countries/regions, institutions, authors, and journals were the USA, University of Illinois Chicago, Krista A. Varady, and Nutrients, respectively. The first high-cited publication was published in PNAS and authored by R. Michael Anson, and it was also the first article about ADF. The top five keywords with the highest frequency were as follows: calorie restriction, weight loss, intermittent fasting, obesity, and body weight. In conclusion, this is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis related to ADF. The main research hotspots and frontiers are ADF for obesity and cardiometabolic risk, and ADF for several different population groups including healthy adults and patients with diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cancer. The number of studies about ADF is relatively small, and more studies are needed to extend our knowledge about ADF, to improve human health.

       Background: Liver cancer (LC) is one of the most common malignancies. Currently, nanotechnology has made great progress in LC research, and many studies on LC nanotechnology have been published. This study aims to discuss the current status, hot spots, and research trends in this field through bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was searched for papers related to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) included from January 2000 to November 2022, and its research hotspots and trends were visualized and analyzed with the help of VOSviewer. In addition, a search was conducted to find LC papers related to nanotechnology. Then we used the visual analysis software VOSviewer and CiteSpace to evaluate the contributions of countries/regions, authors, and journals related to the topic and analyze keywords to understand the research priorities and hot spots in the field as well as the development direction.
    Results: There are 1908 papers in the highly cited literature on LC, and its research hotspots are pathogenesis, risk factors, and survival rate. The literature on the application of nanotechnology in LC had 921 papers. Among them, China (n=560, 60.8%) and the United States (n=170, 18.5%) were the countries with the highest number of published papers. Wang Yan (n=11) and Llovet JM (n=131) were the first authors and co-cited authors, respectively. The International Journal of Nanomedicine was the most prolific academic journal (n=41). In addition to "hepatocellular carcinoma" and "nanoparticles", the most frequent keyword was "drug delivery". In recent years, "metastasis" and "diagnosis" appeared in the keyword bursts. This indicates that the application of nanoparticles in the early diagnosis and drug delivery of LC (including liver metastasis) has a good prospect.
    Conclusion: Nanotechnology has received more and more attention in the medical field in recent years. As nanoparticles are easily localized in organelles and cells, they can increase drug permeability in tumor tissues, improve drug delivery efficiency and reduce drug toxicity. Our research results were the first scientific evaluation of the application of nanotechnology in LC, providing scholars with research hotspots and development trends.

      Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that currently has an unknown cause and pathogenesis, and is associated with many complications and a high disability rate. The neutrophil extracellular trap network (NETs) is a newly discovered mechanism that allows neutrophils to capture and kill pathogens. Multiple studies in recent years have highlighted its relevance to the progression of rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the growing number of studies indicating the crucial role of NETs in RA, there has been no bibliometric review of research hotspots and trends in this area. In this study, we retrieved articles related to NETs in RA from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 1985 to 2023 and used visualization tools such as Citespace, VOSviewer, Tableau Public, and Microsoft Office Excel 2021 to analyze the data. After screening, we included a total of 416 publications involving 2,334 researchers from 1,357 institutions in 167 countries/regions, with relevant articles published in 219 journals. The U.S., China, and Germany are the top 3 countries/regions with 124, 57, and 37 publications respectively. Mariana J. Kaplan is the most published author, and journals such as Frontiers in Immunology and International Journal of Molecular Sciences have had a significant impact on research in this field. The clinical application of PAD enzymes and their inhibitors, and the drug development of NETs as therapeutic targets for RA is a trend for future research. Our study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis and summary of NETs in RA publications, which will aid researchers in conducting further scientific research.

      There is no bibliometric study in the literature on Aplastic Anemia (AA). In the present study, the purpose was to summarize the intellectual structure of the subject, uncover the global productivity in this respect, and identify the latest research trends by performing a bibliometric analysis of the articles published on AA. For this purpose, outputs for different research components of scientific outputs (i.e., countries, institutions, journals, and authors) were analyzed. A total of 3221 articles on Aplastic Anemia published between 1980 and 2022 were analyzed by using various statistical methods and bibliometric approaches. The Spearman Correlation Coefficient was used for correlation analysis and bibliometric network visualization maps were used to identify trending topics, citation analysis, and international collaborations. The top 3 contributing countries to the literature were the USA in this respect (800, 24.8%), China (514, 15.9%), and Japan (442, 13.7%). The top 3 most active institutions were the National Institutes of Health USA (n = 177), National Heart Lung Blood Institute (n = 153), and Udice French Research Universities (n = 136). The top 3 most productive journals were the British Journal of Haematology (n = 239), Blood (n = 181), and Bone Marrow Transplantation (n = 137). The most prolific author was Neal Stuart Young (n = 130). Specific keywords that were most frequently used in articles were severe aplastic anemia, immunosuppressive therapy, pediatrics/children, anti-thymocyte globulin, cyclosporine, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, myelodysplastic syndromes, Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria, hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia, allogeneic stem cell transplantation, haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, pancytopenia, eltrombopag, fludarabine, Graft-Versus-Host Disease, survival, apoptosis, cytokines, and cyclophosphamide. It was determined that the trend topics in recent years were eltrombopag, COVID-19, Treg, Th17, thrombopoietin receptor agonists, haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, haploidentical donor/transplantation, and posttransplantation cyclophosphamide. In the formation of the AA literature, it was determined that the research leadership belonged to the USA, China, Japan, European countries (United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland), India, and South Korea, which have large economies.

       BACKGROUND: The popularity of video laryngoscope (VL) has increased rapidly since its introduction in the late 1990s. However, a comprehensive overview of VL's evolution and impact is lacking, which merits further investigation.
    METHODS: We conducted a bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on VL (Top100VL) published between 2011 and 2022 and retrieved from the PubMed and Web of Science databases. Using social network analysis, we identified the subject terms and subject categories of the Top100VL and compared their citation counts across individual subject terms and categories via one-way ANOVA. Then, we employed the Medical Query Expert software to assess the practical applications of VL.
    RESULTS: The Top100VL included 65 subjects across nine subject categories, with "anesthesiology" being the most frequently represented category and "coronavirus infections" with the highest impact factor. The citation counts inferred by subject categories significantly correlated with the actual citation counts (Pearson's R=0.4, p<0.01). For enhanced visualization, we employed network visualization and Sankey diagrams to display the article characteristics. We highlighted the clinical advantages of VL, including its usefulness in difficult intubations, wider angle of view, and management of pediatric emergencies, as well as its teaching benefits, such as facilitating training programs and a lower learning curve.
    CONCLUSION: By using bibliometric analysis and natural language processing methods, we effectively summarized the applications of VL in both clinical and teaching settings, particularly in reducing the risk of cross-infection during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic.

       PURPOSE: Hypertension remains a major risk factor for myocardial infarction, heart failure, end-stage renal disease, and stroke. Multiple genes are involved in the process of hypertension with an additional dimension of interaction with the environment. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of publications in the field of hypertension and epigenetics over the past 10 years to summarize the current status of the field and analyze the trends in the field.
    METHODS: On February 5, 2023, we chose the web of science core collection database as the study data source. VOS viewer 1.6.18 and Cite Space 6.1.6 were used to examine publications of research on hypertension and epigenetics that were published between 2013 and 2022. We looked through the papers for journals, organizations, nations and regions, authors, and key terms.
    RESULTS: This analysis covered a total of 1535 papers on studies into hypertension and epigenetics. There were 7279 authors, 83 nations, 1983 organizations, and 606 journals in all of the articles. In the USA, 540 publications were the most. The institution with the most publications was Harvard Medical School. The author with the most articles was Zhao Lubo.
    CONCLUSION: This study summarizes the global research trends in hypertension and epigenetics. Publications in this field have increased year by year in the last decade and the field of research on hypertension and epigenetics has good prospects for growth.

       Objective: The number of research into new cognitive assessment tools has increased rapidly in recent years, sparking great interest among professionals. However, there is still little literature revealing the current status and future trends of digital technology use in cognitive assessment. The aim of this study was to summarize the development of digital cognitive assessment tools through the bibliometric method.
    Methods: We carried out a comprehensive search in the Web of Science Core Collection to identify relevant papers published in English between January 1, 2003, and April 3, 2023. We used the subjects such as "digital," "computer," and "cognitive," and finally 13,244 related publications were collected. Then we conducted the bibliometric analysis by Bibliometrix" R-package, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software, revealing the prominent countries, authors, institutions, and journals.
    Results: 11,045 articles and 2,199 reviews were included in our analyzes. The number of annual publications in this field was rising rapidly. The results showed that the most productive countries, authors and institutions were primarily located in economically developed regions, especially the North American, European, and Australian countries. Research cooperation tended to occur in these areas as well. The application of digital technology in cognitive assessment appealed to growing attention during the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.
    Conclusion: Digital technology uses have had a great impact on cognitive assessment and health care. There have been substantial papers published in these areas in recent years. The findings of the study indicate the great potential of digital technology in cognitive assessment.

       Introduction: Research on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has grown significantly, and researchers cannot access the vast amount of literature. This study aimed to explore the research progress in studying HCC over the past 30 years using a machine learning-based bibliometric analysis and to suggest future research directions.
    Methods: Comprehensive research was conducted between 1991 and 2020 in the public version of the PubMed database using the MeSH term "hepatocellular carcinoma." The complete records of the collected results were downloaded in Extensible Markup Language format, and the metadata of each publication, such as the publication year, the type of research, the corresponding author's country, the title, the abstract, and the MeSH terms, were analyzed. We adopted a latent Dirichlet allocation topic modeling method on the Python platform to analyze the research topics of the scientific publications.
    Results: In the last 30 years, there has been significant and constant growth in the annual publications about HCC (annual percentage growth rate: 7.34%). Overall, 62,856 articles related to HCC from the past 30 years were searched and finally included in this study. Among the diagnosis-related terms, "Liver Cirrhosis" was the most studied. However, in the 2010s, "Biomarkers, Tumor" began to outpace "Liver Cirrhosis." Regarding the treatment-related MeSH terms, "Hepatectomy" was the most studied; however, recent studies related to "Antineoplastic Agents" showed a tendency to supersede hepatectomy. Regarding basic research, the study of "Cell Lines, Tumors,'' appeared after 2000 and has been the most studied among these terms.
    Conclusion: This was the first machine learning-based bibliometric study to analyze more than 60,000 publications about HCC over the past 30 years. Despite significant efforts in analyzing the literature on basic research, its connection with the clinical field is still lacking. Therefore, more efforts are needed to convert and apply basic research results to clinical treatment. Additionally, it was found that microRNAs have potential as diagnostic and therapeutic targets for HCC.

      Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), which has been used to treat achalasia and other esophageal motility disorders for the past 10 years, has proven to be secure and efficient. Every year, more and more essays on this subject are published. We sought to investigate the global scientific outputs and hotspots of POEM produced by various nations, organizations, and authors. From 2010 to October 2022, there were 875 papers on POEM that were found in the Web of Science Core database. The bibliometric visualization analyses of nations/regions, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords were conducted by CiteSpace V.5.8.R3. Eight hundred seventy-five publications were included in this analysis. With 68 publications, Inoue H had the highest output. While Showa University in Japan was the most productive institution, the United States was the most productive nation. Among the journals, Surgical Endoscopy published the highest number of articles, followed by Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Endoscopy. The top 10 keywords that appeared most frequently were achalasia, peroral endoscopic myotomy, POEM, myotomy, esophageal achalasia, dysphagia, heller myotomy, endoscopy, gastroparesis and peroral endoscopic myotomy. Seven frontiers, including meta-analysis, high-resolution esophageal manometry, geriatric patient, third space endoscopy, adverse event, endoscopic submucosal dissection, and gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy, had an impact on future research on POEM. The previous 10 years have seen a considerable rise in POEM research, and this trend will continue. The most recent research frontiers, which require more attention, are meta-analysis, high-resolution esophageal manometry, geriatric patient, third space endoscopy, adverse event, and gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy.

      With the increased risk of complications associated with traditional spinal fusion for the treatment of degenerative disc disease, total disc replacement (TDR) has received increasing attention in recent years. Despite the rapid development of its related research fields, its research status and the hotspot analysis are still unclear. Our goal was to identify and analyze the global research trends on TDR using bibliometric tools. All TDR data were obtained from the WoSCC. The information of research field was collected, including title, author, institutions, journals, countries, references, total citations, and years of publication for further analysis. From 1993 to 2022, a total of 1167 articles and 11,348 references were included in this field. These publications are mainly from 53 countries/regions and 174 journals, led by the United States and China. According to the citation report, the US was absolutely in the leading position in this research field. The most contribution institution and author were Sichuan University and Liu H. Spine and European Spine Journal were the most active journal on TDR research, with 205 and 118 articles. Meanwhile, they were also the most frequently cited journals. The "bone loss," "cervical arthroplasty," "hybrid surgery" were the most frequently cited areas of TDR research. Meanwhile, the latest research hotspots and directions were "cervical disc arthroplasty," "7 year follow up," "heterotopic ossification." The scientific research on TDR has increased considerably in recent years. This study clarifies the current research status and future development trends in order to guide clinicians and researchers in the field of TDR. It can be inferred that cervical disc arthroplasty and bone loss will be the research focus in the future.

       Background: The aim of the present study was to perform a bibliometric analysis of research articles published on clubfoot to provide a quantitative description of the literature and to gather information on the institutions, journals, researchers, and countries publishing on this topic.
    Methods: This bibliometric analysis consisted of 2 Web of Science searches. The first identified all articles published prior to April 25, 2022, with "clubfoot" in the title, abstract, or keywords, and the second identified all articles with "Ponseti." Studies were exported in BibTeX format and uploaded into Biblioshiny software in RStudio. Descriptive statistics are reported for variables related to the article, author, and country in which the research was conducted.
    Results: A total of 2,177 articles identified using the term "clubfoot" were included. The first article was published in 1902, and there was a 3% annual growth rate. A total of 762 articles identified using the term "Ponseti" were included, with the first published in 1992 and a 13.9% annual growth rate. The Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics accounted for almost one-quarter of all published reports.
    Conclusions: The literature on clubfoot has expanded in the past decades, and the percentage of studies concerning the Ponseti method has increased dramatically in the years following adoption in the U.S. and, more recently, globally. While a number of studies involved collaboration between authors in high-income and low- and middle-income countries, further collaboration will be essential to evaluate outcomes and help improve service delivery as adoption of this method increases globally.
    Clinical Relevance: This paper explores how the orthopaedic and scientific communities have increasingly contributed to literature on Ponseti casting and clubfoot, and discusses how contributions to the literature are becoming increasingly widespread.

      As a carbon-free clean energy source and energy carrier, the risk of hydrogen explosion is one of the major problems in industrial production processes and has attracted a lot of attention from research scholars. According to the records in the Web of Science Core Collection database, a total of 1043 articles or reviews related to hydrogen explosion were published from 2001 to 2021. In this study, the collected literature information was visually analyzed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The results show that China, USA, Germany, and Japan are major contributors to hydrogen explosion research; the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy has the highest publications among all source journals. The research theme of hydrogen explosion has developed into two main directions: hydrogen mixture explosion characteristics and suppression methods, hydrogen explosion characteristics and suppression methods. Compared to traditional suppression methods, fine water mist is more efficient and environmentally friendly for the explosion of hydrogen and its mixtures. New research hotspots have appeared related to hydrogen fuel cells, the mechanism and prediction method of hydrogen VCE and DDT, explosive suppressants with engineering practicality and economy, and numerical methods that can accurately simulate the turbulence of hydrogen combustion. The results of the study can be used to help researchers quickly understand the current status and research frontiers of hydrogen explosion research and contribute to further research in the field.

      Scars are fibrous tissues that replace normal tissue during the wound healing process. Scarring can lead to low self-esteem, social impairment, depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric and psychological distress, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of the latest perspectives, topical research, and directions in scarring-mental health. This is a biblioshiny and VOSviewer based bibliometric analysis study. All data were obtained from the Web of Science, and a total of 664 articles from 2003 to 2022 met the criteria. The last 7 years have been a period of rapid growth in the field, with 2022 having the highest number of articles. The United States is the core country with the highest production and citation rate. The most cited literature was written in 2003 by Van Loey NE et al. Van Loey NE is the most prolific and influential author in this field. The top five popular keywords include "quality of life", "depression", "management", "anxiety", and "prevalence". The paper concludes that the current focus of scholars in the field is on the treatment of scars and that multidisciplinary treatment of such patients is worth exploring. These findings provide relevant researchers with the current state of research and possible future directions in this field.

       BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common cause of dementia and frailty. Therefore, it is important to develop biomarkers that can diagnose these changes to improve the likelihood of monitoring and treating potential causes. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the relationship between biomarkers and AD, identify journal publications and collaborators, and analyze keywords and research trends using a bibliometric method.
    METHODS: We systematically searched for papers published in the Web of Science Core Collection database on biomarkers and AD. The search strategy was as follows: (TS) = (Alzheimer's OR Alzheimer's OR Alzheimer OR "Alzheimer's disease" OR "Alzheimer disease") AND TS = (biomarker OR biomarkers). Only articles and reviews were included as document types, with English as the primary language. The CiteSpace software was used to analyze the retrieved data on countries/regions, institutions, authors, published journals, and keywords. Simultaneously, the co-occurrence of the keywords was constructed.
    RESULTS: There were 2625 articles on biomarkers and AD research published by 51 institutions located in 41 countries in 75 journals; the number of articles has shown an increasing trend over the past 20 years. Keywords analysis showed that Alzheimer's disease, cerebrospinal fluid, mild cognitive impairment, amyloid beta, and tau were also highly influential.
    CONCLUSION: This was the first study to provide an overview of the current status of development, hot spots of study, and future trends in biomarkers for AD. These findings will provide useful information for researchers to explore trends and gaps in the field of biomarkers and AD.

       Importance: Since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak, an extremely high number of studies have been published worldwide, with variable quality. Research trends of highly cited papers may enable identification of influential research, providing insights for new research ideas; it is therefore important to investigate trends and focus on more influential publications in COVID-19-related studies.
    Objective: To examine research trends of highly cited studies by conducting a bibliometric analysis of highly cited studies in the previous 2 months about COVID-19.
    Design, Setting, and Participants: In this cross-sectional study, Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection were used to find studies with a focus on COVID-19 that were identified as highly cited studies from Clarivate Analytics. Highly cited studies were extracted from the ESI database bimonthly between January 2020 and December 2022. Bibliographic details were extracted from WOS and combined with ESI data using unique accession numbers. The number of highly cited studies was counted based on the fractional counting method. Data were analyzed from January through July 2023.
    Main Outcomes and Measures: The number of publications by research field, country, and institutional affiliation.
    Results: The number of published COVID-19-related highly cited studies was 14 studies in January to February 2020, peaked at 1292 studies in November to December 2021, and showed a downward trend thereafter, reaching 649 studies in November to December 2022. China had the highest number of highly cited studies per 2-month period until July to August 2020 (138.3 studies vs 103.7 studies for the US, the second highest country), and the US had the greatest number of highly cited studies afterward (159.9 studies vs 157.6 studies for China in September to October 2020). Subsequently, the number of highly cited studies per 2-month period published by China declined (decreasing from 179.7 studies in November to December 2020 to 40.7 studies in September to October 2022), and the UK produced the second largest number of such studies in May to June 2021 (171.3 studies). Similarly, the top 5 institutional affiliations in May to June 2020 by highly cited studies per 2-month period were from China (Huazhong University: 14.7 studies; University of Hong Kong: 6.8 studies; Wuhan University: 4.8 studies; Zhejiang University: 4.5 studies; Fudan University: 4.5 studies), while in November to December 2022, the top 5 institutions were in the US and UK (Harvard University: 15.0 studies; University College London: 11.0 studies; University of Oxford: 10.2 studies; University of London: 9.9 studies; Imperial College London: 5.8 studies).
    Conclusions and Relevance: This study found that the total number of highly cited studies related to COVID-19 peaked at the end of 2021 and showed a downward trend until the end of 2022, while the origin of these studies shifted from China to the US and UK.

      In the Journal Citation Reports, it is shared various metrics from the previous year for the journals indexed in the Web of Science. On June 28, 2023, the 2022 data of the journals were shared. In this study, it was aimed to comprehensively examine the current impact factor of the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, which has an important place in its field, and to determine the change observed in the impact factor values over the years. In conclusion, it has been observed that the values of the journal impact factor of the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery have been on an increasing trend, especially in the last 10 years. On the other hand, this value showed a slight decrease in 2022 data, but a similar decrease was observed in many journals in the literature. It is thought that the decreases in journal impact factor for 2022 data may be due to more general reasons, not journal scale. In addition, the values of the impact factor of the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery for the years 1997 to 2022 show that it has maintained its current position in the field of science for a long time.

      Studying consumer behaviour towards food and nutrition labelling (F&NL) is increasingly becoming important across the world. Bibliometric analysis is a way to identify influential research, track trends, and understand methodologies in any field. In this paper, we used bibliometric analysis and a review of theories too to critically evaluate theories and concepts used in studying consumer behaviour towards F&NL. Using the Scopus database, we obtained 1017 articles, which were further filtered to perform various analyses like Co-occurrence and co-authorship network analysis. We found limited East and Southeast Asia-based research. Personal beliefs, attitudes, and past experiences were identified as influencers of consumer behaviour regarding food labelling. Trending topics were food waste, purchase intention, and sustainability labels.

      Little is known about the trends in orthopedic surgical management of cerebral palsy (CP). In this cross-analytical study we examined alterations in research publications in this field in the past 10 years through four databases. Thus, we divided publications into old (2012-2017) and recent (2018-2022). To determine if the focus of research in this field has changed, we compared both periods based on publication's (authors' number, journal, country, design), patients' (number, gender, age, CP type), and surgery-related (indication, number, category, type) characteristics. Publications showed a positive trend over the past 10 years with a peak in 2020. The number of publications was similar between old and recent ones (47.58% vs. 52.42%). Most research outputs were from the United States and Germany. Differences were noted between recent and old publications regarding journals (p = 0.0001), journal category (p = 0.023), authors' number (p = 0.006), and patients' age (p = 0.02). The impact factor was also different (p = 0.0001). However, no differences were noted regarding other characteristics (p > 0.05). The research output regarding surgical orthopedic management in CP has increased in the past decade with no difference between 2012-2017 and 2018-2022. Except for the number of authors, journal name, and patients' age, no significant differences were noted between both periods.

       BACKGROUND: East Asia is the most dynamic region in the world and includes three major countries: Japan, South Korea and China. Due to rapid economic growth, orthopedics research in East Asia has achieved great advances during the past 10 years. However, the current status of orthopedic research in Japan, South Korea and China is still unclear.
    AIM: To understand the current status of orthopedic research in Japan, South Korea, and China.
    METHODS: Journals listed in the ''Orthopedics'' category of Science Citation Index Expanded subject categories were included. The PubMed and Web of Knowledge electronic databases were searched to identify scientific publications from the selected journals written by researchers from Japan, South Korea and China. A systematic analysis was conducted to analyze orthopedic research articles published in the three countries based on the number of articles, study design, impact factors (IFs) and citations. Furthermore, we also ranked the top 10 countries worldwide with the highest publications in the past 10 years. Additionally, we ranked the top 10 countries with the highest number of publications in the world in the past 10 years. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 20.0 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, United States), and statistical results are given in Tables and Figures. The Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test were used to detect differences between countries. The tendency regarding the number of articles was analyzed by curvilinear regression. A two-tailed P < 0.05 was considered significant.
    RESULTS: From 2012-2021, a total of 144518 articles were published in the 86 selected orthopedic journals. During this period, the number of worldwide published orthopedic articles has shown an annual increasing trend. A total of 27164 orthopedic research articles were published by Japan, South Korea and China during the past 10 years; 44.32% were from China, 32.98% were from Japan, and 22.70% were from South Korea. From 2012 to 2021, the annual number of articles markedly increased in each of the three countries. Over time, the worldwide share of articles increased substantially in South Korea (3.37% to 6.53%, P < 0.001) and China (5.29% to 9.61%, P < 0.001). However, the worldwide share of articles significantly decreased in Japan (5.22% to 3.80%, P < 0.001). The annual total IFs of articles from China were well above those of articles from Japan and South Korea (36597.69 vs 27244.48 vs 20657.83, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference among the articles in the top 10 high-IF orthopedics journals published from those three countries [South Korea (800) > China (787) > Japan (646), P > 0.05].
    CONCLUSION: Over the past 10 years, China's scientific publications in orthopedic journals have shown an increasing trend. Considering the relative scale of the populations, Japan and South Korea have outpaced China with respect to quality.

      The growing relevance of sustainability reporting (SR) has dramatically surged advocacy and interest among both academicians and practitioners. However, few studies have attempted to holistically encapsulate global research on sustainability reporting. The present study employed scientometric analysis on sustainability reporting based 1434 articles extracted from the Web of Science database, published between 1992 and 2022, to comprehensively map the intellectual structure of this field. Domain visualizations were constructed using CiteSpace software to identify networks of co-authorship, keywords, subject categories, institutions, and countries engaged in publishing on SR along with co-citation and cluster analysis. The findings revealed that significant contributions in SR research have originated primarily from developed countries, underscoring the necessity for more research in the context of developing and emerging countries. SR field was found characterized by cohesive research sub-communities but lacked global cooperation. Existing studies in the SR research domain focused mainly on subject categories of business, management, environmental studies, green and sustainable science technology, environmental sciences, and business finance. Analysis of most co-cited authors and content analysis of highly co-cited articles were performed, detailing pioneer works in the field. The principal topics in the body of literature were identified via clusters of co-citations between documents and keywords. Future research focus areas include exploring the link between circular economy and SR, the role of social media, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies in SR, attention on the MSME sector, mandatory reporting, assessment of real impact of SR on investor sentiments and financial analysts' valuations, assurance, standardization, financial-sector inclusive research, materiality issues, and understanding niche themes of SR, inclusive of monothematic reporting. Implications of the study for policymakers, companies, society, and academia were examined.

Nutrition, as a common intervention in daily life and medical practice, is closely related to microbiota and pain. However, no published bibliometric reports have analyzed the scientific literature concerning the link.
    METHODS AND RESULTS: We used bibliometrics to identify the characteristics of the global scientific output over the past 20 years. We also aimed to capture and describe how nutrition can modulate the abovementioned link. Relevant papers were searched in the Web of Science database. All necessary publication and citation data were acquired and exported to Bibliometrix for further analyses. The keywords mentioned were illustrated using visualization maps. In total, 1551 papers shed light on the relationship from 2003 to 2022. However, only 122 papers discussed how nutritional interventions can modulate this link. The citations and attention were concentrated on the gut microbiota, pain, and probiotics in terms of the pain-gut relationship. Nutritional status has gained attention in motor themes of a thematic map.
    CONCLUSIONS: This bibliometric analysis was applied to identify the scientific literature linking gut microbiota, chronic painful conditions, and nutrition, revealing the popular research topics and authors, scientific institutions, countries, and journals in this field. This study enriches the evidence moving boundaries of microbiota medicine as a clinical medicine.

      The development of tracheal tissue engineering has seen a rapid growth in recent years. The purpose of this study was to investigate the global status, trends, and hotspots of tracheal tissue engineering research based on bibliometrics and visualization analysis. Publications related to tracheal tissue engineering were retrieved and included in the Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to generate knowledge maps. 655 publications were identified, and the quantity of the annual publications worldwide was on the increase. International collaboration is a widespread reality. The United States led the world in the field of trachea tissue engineering, while University College London was the institution with the greatest contribution. In addition, Biomaterials had a great influence in this field, attracting the largest number of papers. Moreover, the topics of TTE research largely concentrated on the biomechanical scaffold preparation, the vascularization and epithelialization of scaffold, the tracheal cartilage regeneration, and the tissue-engineered tracheal transplantation. And the research on the application of decellularization and 3D printing for the construction of a tissue-engineered trachea was likely to receive more widespread attention in the future.

      Bone metastasis of breast cancer considerably reduces not only overall survival but also health-related quality of life due to pain, fatigue, and skeletal-related events.
    OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyze the research hotspots and trends of global research on bone metastasis of breast cancer in the past 20 years to provide a reference for relevant personnel in this field to carry out academic research.
    METHODS: The literature related to bone metastasis of breast cancer from 2002 to 2021 was retrieved from the Web of Science. The bibliometric research method and VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to analyze the publications, and the research status and development direction in the last 20 years were visualized.
    RESULTS: A total of 7381 articles were included. The number of global publications is increasing every year. The United States contributes the most to global research, with the most citations and the highest H-index. The journal Cancer Research published the most articles on this issue. "Macrophage" and "skeletal related event" will receive more attention and be the next popular hotspot in the future.
    CONCLUSION: There will be an increasing number of publications on bone metastasis of breast cancer based on current global trends. The United States made the largest contribution to this field. More focus will be placed on the mechanisms of metastasis research, which may be the next popular topic in bone metastasis of breast cancer.

      BACKGROUND Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) aims to train inspiratory muscles based mainly on the diaphragm by applying a load resistance during the inspiratory process. Many papers related to IMT have been published in various journals; however, no articles objectively and directly present the development trends and research hotspots of IMT. Therefore, this study used CiteSpace to visually analyze recent IMT-related publications to provide valuable information for future IMT-related studies. MATERIAL AND METHODS CiteSpace was applied to analyze the IMT-related publications by countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. RESULTS We included 504 papers. The number of IMT-related publications trended upward between 2009 and 2022. Leuven had the highest number of publications by an institution. The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine was the most frequently co-cited journal. Half of the top 10 references cited were from Journal Citation Reports (JCR) Q1 and half were about the application of IMT in chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. Gosselink was the author with the highest number of publications and Aldrich was the author with the highest co-citation frequency. The preponderance of studies on the surgical population and postoperative pulmonary complications reflects potential application of IMT in enhanced recovery after surgery. CONCLUSIONS This study provides scholars with important information related to IMT research. It analyzes IMT research trends and status, which can help researchers identify primary topics in the field and find ways to explore new research directions to promote the application of IMT in clinical practice and the cooperation of IMT-related disciplines.

      To mitigate global warming and the greenhouse effect, biochar (BC) has been regarded as an important way of carbon sink. Therefore, this research explored the development trend of BC for soil carbon sequestration and mitigation from 2001 to 2020 based on bibliometric analysis. The results show that Yong Sik Ok and Johannes Lehmann are the top 2 high-impact authors. China, America, and Germany are the most widely collaborated countries, but China's research impact is lower than that of America. The Chinese Academy of Sciences has far more publications than any other institution, but Cornell University and Kangwon National University lead the way in terms of impact. Research hotspots can be divided into five clusters: (1) pyrolysis, nutrient, and microbial communities; (2) the immobilization of heavy metals; (3) crop yield and soil properties; (4) greenhouse gas, meta-analysis, and field experiment; (5) carbon fraction and sequestration. Reviews account for 60 % of the top 10 most highly cited papers, and eight of the top 10 focus on the early research period, setting the stage for the development of the BC field. Science of the Total Environment has the highest number of publications and total citations, and literature published in Soil Biology and Biochemistry is to some extent more likely to be cited. In the future, we need to carry out research in the following aspects: (1) Interaction mechanisms between BC, soil, and soil microbial communities. (2) Designing low-cost, high-yield, and high-effect optimization methods to improve the characteristics of BC. (3) Effect of BC on the environment and human health in long-term localization experiments. (4) Carbon sinks of BC need to be further evaluated on a global scale.

      The purpose of this study is to review the relationship between the highly anticipated concept of circular economy (CE) and sustainable development goals (SDGs). These two sustainability principles have transformed organizations and countries in their quest to achieve sustainable development. Despite their importance to the business and corporate realm, the discussion of these two concepts has been developed in silos, arbitrarily connected. Through a bibliometric approach, this study reviewed 226 journal publications and 16,008 cited references from the Web of Science (WoS) to understand the past, present and future trends of the two concepts and their impact on the sustainability development. The bibliometric approach of citation, co-citation and co-word analysis uncovers the relevant and significant themes and research streams. Theoretical and practical implications were discussed within the broader business and governance perspective to develop a substantial triple bottom line in creating a sustainable future for civil society.

      Pain is a significant public health problem as the number of individuals with a history of pain globally keeps growing. In response, many synergistic research areas have been coming together to address pain-related issues. This work reviews and analyzes a vast body of pain-related literature using the keyword co-occurrence network (KCN) methodology. In this method, a set of KCNs is constructed by treating keywords as nodes and the co-occurrence of keywords as links between the nodes. Since keywords represent the knowledge components of research articles, analysis of KCNs will reveal the knowledge structure and research trends in the literature. This study extracted and analyzed keywords from 264,560 pain-related research articles indexed in IEEE, PubMed, Engineering Village, and Web of Science published between 2002 and 2021. We observed rapid growth in pain literature in the last two decades: the number of articles has grown nearly threefold, and the number of keywords has grown by a factor of 7. We identified emerging and declining research trends in sensors/methods, biomedical, and treatment tracks. We also extracted the most frequently co-occurring keyword pairs and clusters to help researchers recognize the synergies among different pain-related topics.

       Introduction: Emergency medicine is a relatively new and rapidly growing specialty, and its research monitoring is important for future policies. This study aimed to analyze the published literature related to emergency medicine, to create a documented research perspective for this field.
    Methods: This research is a bibliometric study that analyzes the research outputs of the subject area of emergency medicine indexed in the Web of Science database from the beginning to 2023. VOSviewer software was used to visualize and predict the trends in research on the topic.
    Results: The findings showed that the University of California, The Journal of Neurotrauma and Brain Injury, Elsevier, and the USA were the most prolific units in the cycle of scientific productions in the field of emergency medicine. Results showed that most scientific productions in this field fall into 6 clusters: psychological impressions, injuries caused by traumatic events and the effects of traumas on children, pathophysiology and nervous system issues and related diseases, complications of traumatic events and injuries, biomechanics and complications caused by sports injuries, and consciousness.
    Conclusion: In addition to interventions and clinical complications, research in the field of emergency medicine has also focused on psychological structures. So, based on various measurement indicators, the subjects of this field have been the focus of researchers' attention.

       STUDY OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated whether there were improvements in the number of departmental National Institutes of Health (NIH) training grants and the academic productivity of departmental chairs in terms of NIH research funding and PubMed-cited publications when compared to chairs of the same departments in 2006.
    DESIGN: Each chair was identified from the Society of Academic Associations of Academic Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine's Association of Academic Anesthesiology Chairs and entered into the NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tools (RePORTER), PubMed, SCOPUS, and the National Provider Identifier Registry.
    MEASUREMENTS: The number and funding amounts of training grants awarded to the department in 2010, 2015, and 2020 were obtained as well as the department's national ranking and total dollar amount for NIH funding in 2020. For the current chair cohort, total publications and m-quotient (h-index corrected for active research years) were recorded along with each chair's history of NIH grant funding. These data were compared to a previous study of anesthesiology chairs that reviewed funding and publications through 2006.
    MAIN RESULTS: We analyzed data from 100 academic departments of anesthesiology and compared their scholarly activity relative to data gathered in 2006. In 2020, 52 of 100 departments of anesthesiology had evidence of NIH funding. There were not statistically significant (P > 0.05) differences in grants funding obtained by chairs between 2006 and 2020 with the exception that more chairs in 2006 had program or center grants. Median publications for chairs significantly increased from 35 in 2006 to 55 in 2021 (IRR = 1.5, 95% CI = 1.2-2.0, P = 0.003). Nineteen percent of chairs were female, which did not significantly differ from the proportion of women in the 2006 paper (15%, χ2 = 0.57, df = 1, P = 0.452). Of the male chairs, 90% were professors whereas 63% of female chairs were professors (χ2 = 8.8, df = 1, P = 0.003). Female chairs had fewer publications than male chairs (IRR = 1.8, 95% CI = 1.2-1.8, P = 0.002); however, m-quotients were not significantly different between men and women (P = 0.602).
    CONCLUSIONS: When compared to 2006, department of anesthesiology chairs had more publications in 2021; however, NIH funding rates remained unchanged. The specialty had 19% female chairs, and those chairs had fewer publications than their male counterparts, though sex differences were attenuated using metrics that account for disparities in career length.

       PURPOSE: Female ophthalmologists are underrepresented in the field of ophthalmology. This study aimed to analyze the gender differences among ophthalmology residency program directors (PDs) in the United States with respect to academic rank, number of publications, and h-index.
    METHODS: This cross-sectional study evaluated 120 ophthalmology residency PDs from 120 ophthalmology residency programs during the 2022 San Francisco Match. The gender information was collected from institutional websites. The information regarding the state of each institute, academic rank, degree (MD or DO), age, and publication productivity was also recorded.
    RESULTS: From the 120 residency programs, 120 ophthalmology residency PDs were identified. Most PDs had an MD degree (118 out of 120, 98.3%), while only a few had a DO degree (2 out of 120, 1.7%). Only 31 (25.8%) out of 120 residency PDs were female. There was a statistically significant difference between female residency PDs and male residency PDs (p<0.0001). Male PDs had a higher h-index (15.2 ± 1.2) compared to their female counterparts (11.9 ± 0.97) (p=0.003). Regarding academic rank, male PD number was higher in each category, including assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor.
    CONCLUSIONS: United States ophthalmology residency programs have a smaller portion of females compared to male PDs. Furthermore, full professors are more likely to be male, and males have higher publication productivity in terms of h-index. To promote equality among ophthalmologists, future initiatives should focus on addressing the gender disparities in ophthalmology residency programs and the selection of residency PDs.

       BACKGROUND: Research guides evidence-based general surgery practice, advocacy, policy and resource allocation, but is seemingly lacking representation from those countries with greatest disease burden and mortality. Accordingly, we conducted a geographic study of publications in the most impactful general surgery journals worldwide.
    METHODS: The six general surgery journals with the highest 2020 impact factors were selected. Only journals specific to general surgery were included. For all original articles over the past five years, the affiliated country and city were extracted for the first, second and last author. Number of publications were adjusted per capita, and compared to Human Development Index (HDI) using logistic regression.
    RESULTS: 8274 original articles were published in the top six ranked general surgery journals over 2016-2020, with 24,332 affiliated authors. Authors were most commonly associated with the US (27.88%), Japan (9.09%) and China (8.46%), or per capita, The Netherlands, Sweden and Singapore. There is a linear association between publishing in a top six journal and HDI of country of affiliation. Just four publications were from medium or low HDI countries over the period.
    CONCLUSION: Authorship in leading general surgery journals is predominantly from wealthy, Western countries. Authorship is associated with affiliation with a high HDI country, with few authors from medium or low HDI countries. There is a lack of representation in literature from Africa, Russia, and parts of Southeast Asia, and thus a lack of locally relevant evidence to guide surgical practice in these areas of high disease burden and low life expectancy.

       OBJECTIVE: To subvert issues of low sample sizes and high attrition rates and generate epidemiologically-sound evidence, collaborative research-through international consortia and multi-centric studies-and meta-analysis approaches are encouraged in spinal cord injury (SCI) research. We investigated the use of systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMA) methodology in SCI research and evaluated the quality of evidence across publications we identified.
    METHODS: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection database by topic without time or language restrictions through 16 December 2022. We identified additional relevant articles through Embase.com. SRMA including human and animal SCI populations were eligible for inclusion. We analyzed data using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer. We used the JBI tool (former Joanna Briggs Institute) to assess methodological quality of a subset of 50 randomly selected articles.
    RESULTS: We based our analysis on data from 1'224 documents authored by 5'237 scholars and published in 424 sources between 1985 and 2022. The use of SRMA methodology in the field gained momentum in 2009 and a steady increase followed with an annual growth rate of ≈15%. Our findings indicate major research themes in the field include recovery, SCI management, rehabilitation, and quality of life. Over the past 30 years there has been a shift from SRMA concerning functional recovery, secondary health complications, and quality of life toward biomarkers and neuro-regeneration. The major methodological issues across articles we evaluated included opaquely described search strategies, poorly reported critical appraisals, and insufficiently addressing publication bias. In addition, only one-fifth of articles reported review protocol registration.
    CONCLUSIONS: : Our bibliometric analysis clearly shows a rapid increase of SRMA applications in SCI research. We discuss the most important methodological concerns we identified among a randomly selected set of articles and provide guidance for improving adherence to methodological and reporting SRMA guidelines.

      Noma is an orofacial gangrenous infection commonly affecting malnourished children in the tropical region of the World, particularly the sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria is a sub-Saharan African country which is among the countries seriously affected by noma. In Nigeria, noma has been classified as a priority disease. However, only very little attention has been focused on noma research in Nigeria, unlike many other priority diseases. This study conducted an informetric analysis of research outputs on noma in Nigeria, using the PubMed database - a world-leading and authoritative database of medical literature. This study revealed that only 26 PubMed-indexed publications on noma (PONs), published between January 1990 and September 2021, were available. A trend analysis of these PONs showed that the average output (outputs from 1999 to 2020 = 23) rate per year (from 1990 to 2020 [31 years]) was 0.74 (23/31). Sokoto (n = 11), Oyo (n = 4) and Kebbi (n = 3) were the top three Nigerian states surveyed on noma in the included PONs. Only 12 publications had international co-authors, of which only few publications had co-authors affiliated with institutions in other African countries: South Africa - 5 publications; and Rwanda - 2 publications. Only two publications were funded. Also, the top five prolific Nigerian authors on noma in Nigeria were affiliated with Noma Children Hospital, Sokoto State, Nigeria. In conclusion, PONs by Nigerian authors is so meagre in quantity. This low output is an issue of medical concern. More research focused on noma in Nigeria is needed through funding and other research capacity-strengthening measures.

       OBJECTIVE: A skewed percentage of industry payments goes to "key opinion leaders" (KOLs) whose prominence and influence has increased with time. Given that KOL is neither precisely defined nor quantifiable, we turned to the level of industry payments as a surrogate quantifiable metric and assessed the associations between industry payments to US rheumatologists and their authorships of publications in high-impact rheumatology journals.
    METHODS: Payments to US rheumatologists during the 2015-2020 interval were obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Open Payments database, and authorships were tallied for calendar year 2021 publications in the four rheumatology journals (Lancet Rheumatol, Nat Rev Rheumatol, Ann Rheum Dis, Arthritis Rheumatol) with the highest 2021 journal impact factors and journal citation indicators. Differences between groups were determined by chi-squared test, unpaired Student's t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Mann-Whitney rank sum test, and Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA on ranks. Correlations were calculated using Spearman rank order. A P value ≤0.05 was considered significant.
    RESULTS: There were 278 individual US rheumatologists who received industry payments and served as authors of publications in the four high-impact rheumatology journals. Non-research-associated payments to these individuals strongly correlated with research-associated payments. Payments to male US rheumatologists were greater than those to their female counterparts, and payments strongly correlated with the number of publications among male authors but only weakly, and often not significantly, among female authors.
    CONCLUSION: A substantial fraction of the authorships in calendar year 2021 publications in four high-impact rheumatology journals arose from a very small percentage of all US rheumatologists who had received industry payments during the 2015-2020 interval. Payments to male US rheumatologist-authors were strikingly different from those to female US rheumatologist-authors, and further investigation is needed to explain the glaring difference in payments.

      The Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, was one of the largest natural disasters in modern times. Publication in medical journals is important aspects of the academic promotion process, and is thus important for all scientists. However, little is known about whether and how substantial natural disasters affect gender disparities in academic productivity in disaster-affected areas. We hypothesized that the Great East Japan Earthquake widened the existing disparities in scientific publishing between male and female researchers. To test this hypothesis, this retrospective observational study using existing databases was conducted. We extracted from the MEDLINE database all types of biomedical articles published from March 11, 2007, to March 11, 2015, by three medical universities in a disaster-affected area of Japan. Differences in the proportion of female first authorship during the 4 years before and after the Great East Japan Earthquake were compared. A total of 5,873 papers were analyzed. The proportion of female first authors significantly declined after the Great East Japan Earthquake (20.5% vs. 14.1%; odds ratio 0.64; 95% confidence interval 0.56-0.73). A similar trend was identified across all prespecified subgroups, including clinical department; original article; public medical university; and prestigious journal with impact factor >6. Reference data from two medical universities minimally affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake showed the opposite trend. These results collectively suggest that large natural disasters can reinforce existing gender disparities in first authorship in biomedicine.

      The inclusion of women psychologists in arenas of academic and professional recognition has been a slow and often invisible process. This study seeks to highlight the scientific contributions of six women psychologists classified as eminent during the twentieth century (Haggbloom et al., Review of General Psychology, 6(2), 139-152, 2002) and the contexts in which they developed. Applying a historiographic and bibliometric approach, we analyzed biographical data and scientific contributions by reviewing the Web of Science, Scopus and APA PsycNet databases. The results show the broad contributions of the six psychologists to the field of psychology in the areas of experimental psychology, childhood and memory. We discuss the importance of rendering visible and overcoming the epistemic injustices to which women in psychology are subject, as well as the resistance and strategies many of them used to confront the structural limitations of this environment.

      The integrated plastic surgery residency match is a highly competitive process. If performed wisely, medical research is an opportunity to differentiate applications from peers, and productivity is closely evaluated by residency programs. In this study, the authors aimed to characterize medical student research productivity for integrated plastic surgery residency programs and their respective medical schools. To this end, the authors performed a retrospective review of senior author publications from the 81 integrated plastic surgery programs from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2020. The primary outcome was a publication with a medical student as the first author. Secondary outcomes included the number of faculty from each program, the geographic region of the program, and the ranking of associated medical schools. It was found that the average number of medical student first-author publications and faculty members per institution were 14.0 and 11.0, respectively. There was a positive correlation between the number of faculty members and several medical student first-author publications for a program (R = 0.54, P < 0.0001). The average number of medical student first-author publications was higher in the top 25 programs than for the remaining programs (P < 0.001), and most medical student first-author publications in the United States were produced by 10 plastic surgery programs. From these findings, it was concluded that these programs associated with higher-ranking medical schools produce greater numbers of medical student first-author publications. These analyses of medical student academic productivity should be a highly useful guide for current and future medical students as they strategize their successful match into plastic surgery.

      Sustainable livelihoods (SL) have emerged as a crucial area of focus in global environmental change research, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This field is rapidly gaining prominence in sustainability science and has become one of the primary research paradigms. In our study, we conducted scientometrics analysis using the ISI Web of Science core collection database to examine research patterns and frontier areas in SL research. We selected 6441 papers and 265,759 references related to SL published from 1991 to 2020. To achieve this, we employed advanced quantitative analysis tools such as CiteSpace and VOSviewer to quantitatively analyze and visualize the evolution of literature in the SL research field. Our overarching objectives were to understand historical research characteristics, identify the knowledge base, and determine future research trends. The results revealed an exponential increase in SL research documentation since 1991, with the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Center (CGIAR) contributing the highest volume of research documents and citations. Key journals in this field included World Development, Global Environmental Change, Ecological Economics, and Ecology and Society. Notably, Singh RK and Shackleton CM emerged as prolific authors in SL research. Through our analysis, we identified six primary clusters of research areas: livelihoods, conservation, food security, management, climate change, and ecosystem services. Additionally, we found that tags such as rural household, agricultural intensification, cultural intensification, and livelihoods vulnerability remained relevant and represented active research hotspots. By analyzing keyword score relevance, we identified frontier areas in SL research, including mass tourism, solar home systems, artisanal and small-scale mining, forest quality, marine-protected areas, agricultural sustainability, sustainable rangeland management, and indigenous knowledge. These findings provide valuable insights to stakeholders regarding the historical, current, and future trends in SL research, offering strategic opportunities to enhance the sustainability of livelihoods for farmers and rural communities in alignment with the SDGs.

      Acephate is a pesticide classified as moderately toxic, and its metabolite methamidophos is highly toxic for mammals and birds; even so, it is one of the most used insecticides in pest control for agricultural and domestic use. Acephate toxicity affects both target and non-target organisms and causes serious damage to the environment. There are several studies on different perspectives of acephate, such as monitoring, toxicity, and modeling. In this sense, this research aims to identify the structure of intellectual production on acephate and analyze the gaps and trends of scientific production on acephate through a scientometric analysis. The data was obtained from the Web of Science database, and after the refinement, 1.085 documents were used. A temporal pattern of the main research objectives is displayed. Most selected studies evaluated acephate efficiency, followed by toxicity and residue detection methods. The USA, China, India, Brazil, and Japan had the highest number of publications on acephate. The keywords most utilized were pesticides, toxicity, insecticide resistance, and residue. Research involving acephate requires greater attention from areas such as ecotoxicology, biochemistry, genetics, and biotechnology. There needed to be more discussions on chronic toxicity, genotoxicity, and cytotoxicity. Moreover, few studies about metabolic and biochemical pathways and genes related to acephate action and biodegradation were scarce.

      The European Water Framework Directive (WFD) is one of the most studied environmental legislations and recently turned twenty. The paper deals with a literature search and analysis of 4120 references related to this Directive. After a period of strong increase in article production (2002-2012) WFD scientific productivity is currently still high (~ 260 papers year-1), suggesting a persistent interest of the scientific community on this issue. Most research supporting the WFD was on water sciences, but contributions were also from governance and socio-economic disciplines. Studies on biological quality elements and rivers were prominent. The WFD implementation has seen a strong participation of scientists from all EU countries, and partially also from outside-EU nations. To improve the EU water policy and management, the paper suggests a greater interconnection between WFD and other EU Directives and indicates some emerging environmental issues to which the Directive should address.

      What is the gender gap in invited publications in high-impact psychology journals? To answer this critical question, Mackelprang et al. (2023) examined invited publications in five high-impact psychology journals. They first calculated the share of women among authors of the invited publications (35.6%), then compared it with a "base rate" (42.3%; the share of women among associate and full psychology professors at R1 institutions). This comparison was presented as empirical evidence of women being underrepresented in the authorship of publications in these high-impact journals. In this commentary, we show that comparing these two descriptives-either using a difference or a ratio-provides little insight into the actual gender disparity of interest. A fundamental shortcoming of such a comparison is due to outcome-dependent selection. We explain what outcome-dependent selection is and why it is inappropriate. Crucially, we explain why, following such outcome-dependent selection, comparing the share of women in the selected sample with a "base rate" rules out drawing valid inferences about the actual gender gap. We urge researchers to recognize the perils of, and thus avoid, outcome-dependent selection.       Progress on surgical system strengthening has been slow due to a disconnect between evidence generation and the information required for effective policymaking. This systematic mapping review sought to assess critical research gaps in the field of global surgery guided by the World Health Organisation Health Systems building block framework, analysis of authorship and funding patterns, and an exploration of emerging research partnership networks. Literature was systematically mapped to identify, screen, and synthesize results of publications in the global surgery field between 2015 and March 2022. We searched four databases and included literature published in seven languages. A social network analysis determined the network attributes of research institutions and their transient relationships in shaping the global surgery research agenda. We identified 2,298 relevant studies out of 92,720 unique articles searched. Research output increased from 453 in 2015-16 to 552 in 2021-22, largely due to literature on Covid-19 impacts on surgery. Sub-Saharan Africa (792/2298) and South Asia (331/2298) were the most studied regions, although high-income countries represented a disproportionate number of first (42%) and last (43%) authors. Service delivery received the most attention, including the surgical burden and quality and safety of services, followed by capacity-building efforts in low- and middle-income countries. Critical research in economics and financing, essential infrastructure and supplies, and surgical leadership necessary to guide policy decisions at the country level were lacking. Global surgical systems remain largely under-researched. Knowledge diffusion requires an emphasis on developing sustainable research partnerships and capacity across low- and middle-income countries. A renewed focus must be given to equipping countries with tools for effective decision-making to enhance investments in high-quality surgical services.

       BACKGROUND: Emerging technologies have demonstrated outstanding potential in improving healthcare, yet their full integration remains a challenge for all medical specialties, including pediatrics. To support the swift implementation of technologies, we identified the current trends through a bibliometric review, and we conducted a survey on Italian pediatricians to gauge educational needs and willingness to integrate technologies into clinical practice.
    METHODS: A working group of pediatricians representing various backgrounds designed and coordinated the study. To identify relevant topics for educational strategy development, we focused on virtual reality, telehealth, natural language processing, smartphone applications, robotics, genomics, and artificial intelligence. A bibliometric analysis limited to 2018-2023 was performed to identify trends and emerging applications within each topic. Based on the results, a questionnaire was developed and made available online to all Italian pediatricians. The results were analyzed through descriptive analysis and a multivariable logistic regression to explore associations between technology adoption and sociodemographic characteristics.
    RESULTS: A total of 3,253 publications were found, with Telehealth and Telemedicine having the highest number of publications and Natural Language Processing the lowest. The number of respondents to the online questionnaire was 1,540, predominantly medical doctors with over 20 years of experience working as family pediatricians. Telehealth had the highest level of knowledge (95.2%), followed by smartphone applications (89.1%) and genomics (63.2%). The greatest potential for increased use through education programs was projected for natural language processing (+ 43.1%), artificial intelligence (+ 39.6%), and virtual and mixed reality (+ 38.1%). Female respondents and older individuals were less likely to use emerging technologies. Hospital pediatricians and residents were more likely to use AI.
    CONCLUSIONS: We developed a replicable strategy to identify emerging themes in medical technologies relevant to pediatrics and assess the educational needs of pediatricians. A significant gap still exists between current and potential usage of emerging technologies among Italian pediatricians although they showed a positive attitude towards implementing these technologies following specific education programs. The study highlights the need for comprehensive education programs on emerging technologies in pediatrics and recommends addressing gender and age disparities in technology adoption.
