      Zero-valent iron (ZVI)-based materials are among the most widely used engineered particles in the field of environmental remediation. To provide a comprehensive overview of the status and trend of the research on them, this study conducted a quantitative and visual analysis of 6296 relevant publications obtained from Web of Science between 1994 and 2022 using CiteSpace software. By using the bibliometric method, this work systematically analyzed the knowledge structure, research hotspots and trends of ZVI-based materials in this field. The results show that the research on ZVI-based materials in this field developed rapidly over the past 28 years. China is the greatest contributor with the most published articles and collaborations. Still, the USA has the most academic influence with the highest average citations per article. Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tongji University are the primary establishments that produced the greatest number of publications and had the highest h-index. Keyword cluster analysis indicates that the primary research topics are related to reductive dechlorination, sulfate radical, arsenic removal, graphene oxide, porous media, peroxymonosulfate, groundwater remediation, and permeable reactive barrier. Meanwhile, keyword burst analysis reveals that the primary research hotspots and frontiers of ZVI focus on its modification, the refractory and emerging contaminants treatment, persulfate activation, and electron transfer. However, no keywords or topics related to the environmental impact and toxicity of ZVI-based materials are available in the keyword clustering and burst analysis results, indicating this direction deserves more attention in future research. Through a comprehensive and in-depth bibliometric analysis, this paper provides new insight into the research hotspots and development trends of the research on ZVI-based materials in environmental remediation.

      Meniscus suture is an important treatment method for meniscus injury and contributes to the preservation of proprioception, restoration of knee biomechanics and alleviation of progressive osteoarthritis. However, there are few visualized analyses concerning the present studies of meniscus suture. This paper aims to evaluate the global trends, highlights and frontiers of meniscus suture. A bibliometric analysis was conducted based on the results of studies related to meniscus suture from web of science core collection. VOSviewer, GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel and R-bibliometrix were utilized for the bibliometric analysis of country and institution distribution, chronological distribution, source journals analysis, prolific authors and institutions analysis, keywords analysis, and reference co-citation analysis. A total of 950 publications on meniscus suture from 177 different sources were retrieved over the set time span. These publications were completed by 3177 authors from 1112 institutions in 54 countries. The United States was the most prolific country with 7960 citations and 348 publications (36.63%). Furumatsu Takayuki acted as the most prolific author (51 publications), while Robert F LaPrade with 1398 citations was the most-cited author. And more papers were published in the core journals, including American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy-The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy and Arthroscopy Techniques. Furthermore, "meniscus healing," "meniscus root tear" seem to be the emerging research hotspots. Notably, the publication trend concerning the all-inside suture technique has been rising during the past decade. The number of research publications on meniscus suture has been continuously risen since 2010. The authors, publications and institutions from the United States and East Asia were still the mainstays in this field. And the all-inside suture may become the mainstream surgical technique in the future, with meniscus healing and meniscus root tears being research highlights recently.

       BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia affects more than 21 million people worldwide. There have been a number of articles published in the literature regarding schizophrenia. It is unclear which authors contributed the most to the field of schizophrenia. This study examines which article entities (affiliated countries, institutes, journals, and authors) earn the most research achievements (RAs) and whether keywords in articles are associated with the number of article citations.
    METHODS: As of August 25, 2022, 20,606 abstracts published on schizophrenia in psychiatry since 2017 were retrieved from the WoS core collection (WoSCC). RAs were measured using the category, JIF, authorship, and L-index (CJAL) score. The follower-leading cluster algorithm (FLCA) was used to examine clusters of keywords associated with core concepts of research. There were 7 types of visualizations used to report the study results, including Sankey diagrams, choropleth maps, scatter charts, radar plots, and cluster plots. A hypothesis was examined that the mean number of citations for keywords could predict the number of citations for 100 top-cited articles(T100SCHZ).
    RESULTS: The results indicate that the US (18861), Kings College London (U.S. (2572), Psychiatry (14603), and Kolanu Nithin (Australia) (9.88) had the highest CJAL scores in countries, institutes, departments, and authors, respectively. The journal of Schizophrenia Res had higher citations (19,017), counts (1681), and mean citations (11.31) in journals. There was a significant correlation between article citations and weighted keywords (F = 1471.74; P < .001).
    CONCLUSION: Seven visualizations were presented to report the study results, particularly with thematic maps using scatter and 4-quadrant plots produced in R programming language. We recommend that more future bibliographical studies utilize CAJL scores and thematic maps to report their findings, not restrict themselves solely to schizophrenia in psychiatry as done in this study.

       INTRODUCTION: Dysplastic nevi are pigmented lesions that exhibit clinical and histological features of both common nevi and melanoma. In recent years, there has been an increase in publications on dysplastic nevi. Bibliometric analysis is a method of evaluating trends in large number of publications and identifying popular topics.
    OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study is to provide an overview of the landscape of publications related to dysplastic nevi, visualize trends and identify popular topics in the literature.
    METHODS: Thomson Reuters' Web of Science database was searched with the following query in title, abstract or keywords: TS = ("dysplastic nevus" OR "clark nevus" OR "atypical nevus" OR "dysplastic nevi" OR "clark nevi" OR "atypical nevi"). Time span was set to 1992-2022. Document type was set to Article. Titles, authors, abstracts, institutions, countries, journals, references, and the citation information were recorded.
    RESULTS: Although the number of publications has declined over time, the USA remains the leading contributor to published articles. Key clusters of frequently used keywords were identified. The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology had the highest number of published titles. Country and journal analysis were supplemented by co-citation and co-cited reference cluster analysis. Burst analyses revealed authors like Kittler, Argenziano, and Gandini as significant contributors, with their works receiving strong citation bursts extending until the end of the study period.
    CONCLUSIONS: This bibliometric analysis revealed trends and interest pockets in the literature pertaining to dysplastic nevi and melanoma. This study aids in understanding the current research landscape and highlights potential future directions in this field.

       OBJECTIVES: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common global condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. Biomarkers can aid in the diagnosis, prediction, intervention, and outcome assessment of AKI. This study aimed to summarize the current research status and identify research hotspots for AKI biomarkers using bibliometric analysis.
    METHODS: Relevant original English language articles were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection database, from inception to 31 December 2022. Full records and related cited references from all the documents were collected and analyzed.
    RESULTS: A total of 16368 authors from 3379 institutions in 83 countries/regions contributed to 2916 documents that were published in 712 academic journals. Annual publication output followed exponential growth since 2008. The United States, the University of Pittsburgh, and the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology were the most productive countries, institutions, and journals in terms of research outputs, respectively. The area of interest has shifted from neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, cell cycle, and tubular damage toward sepsis and COVID-19. Apoptosis, inflammation, and chronic kidney disease have become popular in recent years, and studies on ferroptosis, machine learning, COVID-19, and renal fibrosis will be the focus of future research.
    IMPLICATIONS: This bibliometric study suggests that future research on AKI biomarkers would focus on ferroptosis, renal fibrosis and COVID-19. Artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, maybe the most promising direction for the discovery and validation of AKI biomarkers.

       BACKGROUND: Bibliometric analysis is a scientific method that can derive insights into major publications' trends within a field. Currently, no bibliometric study has been conducted for Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS).
    OBJECTIVE: To characterize the most frequently cited articles in MMS.
    METHODS: Web of Science was used to identify the 100 most cited publications on MMS between 1970 and 2022. Articles were analyzed by title, authorship, institution, journal, year, citation frequency, originating country, funding, citation index, Altmetric score, impact factor, Eigenfactor score, and article influence score.
    RESULTS: Since January 2023, the top 100 articles had 9,096 total citations, ranging from 47 to 304. The top cited publication was "Mohs surgery is the treatment of choice for recurrent (previously treated) basal-cell carcinoma" in 1989. The top contributing organization was Harvard University (17%) and top contributing authors were Brodland, DJ (12%) and Zitelli, JA (11%). The year 2005 accounted for most of the articles (12%). Most articles were from the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (32%) and Dermatologic Surgery (27%). The United States contributed to 76% of the top articles.
    CONCLUSION: This bibliometric analysis offers researchers a detailed overview of important MMS publications and provides useful data into current findings steering MMS research and practice.

       Background: Virtual reality (VR) is a computer simulation technique that has been increasingly applied in pain management over the past 2 decades.
    Objective: In this study, we used bibliometrics to explore the literature on VR and pain control, with the aim of identifying research progress and predicting future research hot spots.
    Methods: We extracted literature on VR and pain control published between 2000 and 2022 from the Web of Science Core Collections and conducted bibliometric analyses. We analyzed the publication and citation trends in the past 2 decades, as well as publication and citation analyses of different countries, institutions, journals, and authors. For references, we conducted cocitation and burst analyses. For keywords, we conducted co-occurrence, clustering, timeline view, and citation burst analyses.
    Results: Based on 1176 publications, we found that there was a continuous increase in publication and citation volumes, especially in the last 5 years. The United States was the most representative country, and the University of Washington was the most representative institution, with both having the most publications and citations. The most popular journal in this field was Burns, and Hoffman HG was the most productive author, leading many studies on patients with burn pain. The reference with the most citation burst was a study on the verification of new hardware in pain control. The keywords with the highest citation bursts related to various situations of pain such as "burn pain," "wound care," "low back pain," and "phantom limb."
    Conclusions: VR has been applied in various clinical situations for pain management, among which burns and pediatric surgery have achieved satisfactory results. We infer that VR will be extended to more clinical pain situations in the future, such as pain control in wound care, low back pain, and phantom limb pain. New research hot spots will include the development of software and hardware to improve the immersive experience of VR for pain control. However, our work was based solely on English literature from the Web of Science database. For future studies, we recommend that researchers explore literature from multiple databases to enhance the scope of their research.

      In recent years, the 3D printing of personalized drug formulations has attracted the attention of medical practitioners and academics. However, there is a lack of data-based analyses on the hotspots and trends of research in this field. Therefore, in this study, we performed a bibliometric analysis to summarize the 3D printing research in the field of personalized drug formulation from 2012 to 2022. This study was based on the Web of Science Core Collection Database, and a total of 442 eligible publications were screened. Using VOSviewer and online websites for bibliometric analysis and scientific mapping, it was observed that annual publications have shown a significant growth trend over the last decade. The United Kingdom and the United States, which account for 45.5% of the total number of publications, are the main drivers of this field. The International Journal of Pharmaceutics and University College London are the most prolific and cited journals and institutions. The researchers with the most contributions are Basit, Abdul W. and Goyanes Alvaro. The keyword analysis concluded that the current research hotspots are "drug release" and "drug dosage forms". In conclusion, 3D printing has broad application prospects in the field of personalized drugs, which will bring the pharmaceutical industry into a new era of innovation.

       BACKGROUND: Digitized databases of scientific publications provide an opportunity to study the development and structure of science as a whole or a discipline. Qualitative methods of bibliometrics help with this, and the multidisciplinary approach, known as the "Science of Science", provides a thinking framework and methods. There is no example for the analysis of the bibliometric characteristics of Hungarian suicidology publications.
    METHOD: In this study, the author analyzes publications related to suicidal behavior published between 1992 and 2021, with the participation of at least one Hungarian author, using statistical, data visualization, and network analysis methods. The analysis used publications in English, Hungarian, and other languages found in the Scopus database.
    RESULTS: The present research could identify 426 Hungarian publications in the three decades examined. The number of studies increased 5.8 times between the first and last five-year periods. The growth is not linear; there was a sudden increase in the number of studies around 2004. The doubling time for the number of studies is 9.6 years. The analysis identified five larger and five smaller clusters in the authors' network of relationships, representing well-known domestic suicidal research groups. In suicidology, Lotka's law also applies to the Hungarian sample. That is, few authors write the majority of studies, while the vast majority write only a few publications during their careers. A study's average number of authors increased significantly during the examined period. Multi-author studies received significantly more citations than single-author studies. 74.4% of the announcements are in English, and 21.6% are in Hungarian.
    CONCLUSIONS: The methods of bibliometric analysis and the "science of science" can help research groups identify new research directions. All of this can ultimately contribute to a better understanding of suicidal behavior, allowing answering social and scientific problems. The focus of future bibliometric research, in addition to foreign databases, could be the analysis of a broader time interval with the help of Hungarian databases (e.g., MATARKA).

      This paper aims at synthesizing the scientific research on coal fly ash and agriculture using bibliometric analysis. The research on fly ash and agriculture has grown at 6.7% annually during 1973-2022, where much attention has been received after 2007. The number of publications on coal fly ash and agriculture reached above 100 in the year 2010, which further increased to 299 by 2020. The research productivity has been assessed as the most influential countries, journals, and documents in terms of a number of publications and citations on fly ash and agriculture. India is the most productive country in terms of knowledge on coal fly ash and agriculture with 38% of the global publications, while Environmental Science and Pollution Research is the leading journal with 19 publications. The article on assessing the impact of fly ash incorporation in soil systems by Pandey and Singh (2010), having 349 citations with 26.85 citations per year is one of the leading publications globally. Further, science mapping has been conducted to comprehend the current research focus and discover the emerging themes for future research. The finding of the thematic map based on the level of development and importance indicate that FA can be effectively explored as soil-additive for improved physical, chemical and biological properties and enhanced plant nutrients. The findings provide several aspects of fly ash and suggest future research directions to study the potential of using coal fly ash in agriculture to gain an agronomic advantage.

       Background: The accessibility of digital information has expanded orthopaedic surgery with expanded role of Big Databases. The increasing interest have led to creation of large databases with increasing utilization in retrospective studies. The aim of this study is to identify Big Database research and predict future hotspots.
    Methods: Big Database publications between 1982 and 2022 were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection of Clarivate Analytics. Bibliometric indicators were obtained and imported for further analysis with VOSviewer and Bibliometrix to identify previous and ongoing trends within this field.
    Results: Bibliometric sourcing identified 811 total articles that was associated with major databases. Twenty-eight countries published manuscript in the field with the United States as the largest contributor. The most relevant institutions were Cleveland Clinic and Harvard University. Mont MA was the most productive and influential author. Co-occurrence visualization and thematic map identified niche and major themes within the literature.
    Conclusions: Large Database research continue to show an increasing trend since 2011 with contributions globally. United States institutions and authors are the leading contributors in big database research. This study identifies previous, current, and developing trends within this field for future hotspot development.

      Adequate water, electricity, and food are essential for sustainable development. Regional conflicts intensified by global water, energy, and food shortages necessitate a rethinking of the security and interdependence of these resources. However, most earlier scholars concentrated on the subsystems of the water-energy-food nexus (WEF nexus), lacking holistic studies. Therefore, to understand the history and current state of research on the WEF nexus and predict future research directions, this study analyzed 1313 journal articles from the Web of Science database between 2007 and 2022 using the bibliometric analysis and Citespace software. The findings in this study indicate that (1) the progress of the WEF nexus research can be classified into three stages between 2007 and 2022: the early stage (2007-2010), the fast-developing stage (2011-2015), and the steady and in-depth stage (2016-2022). The WEF nexus has become a hot zone for academic research. (2) Map of the network of countries, institutions, and author collaborations implies tight academic collaboration among countries, institutions, and writers. (3) Climate change, integrated WEF nexus, sustainable development, and security are research hotspots in this field. Meanwhile, energy security, circular economy, and resource allocation are advanced subjects in this field. These key findings can provide managers and researchers with valuable information for decision-making.

      This review paper presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the global scientific research pertaining to carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) from the years 1996 to 2023. The review employs a systematic approach to evaluate the trends, patterns, and collaborative networks within the CRAB research landscape, shedding light on its substantial global health implications. An analysis of the Scopus database reveals that the earliest publication within the CRAB research domain dates back to 1996. By conducting a meticulous examination of publication output, citation trends, author affiliations, and keyword distributions, this paper provides valuable insights into the evolution of research themes and the emergence of new areas of interest concerning CRAB. The findings of this bibliometric analysis prominently feature the most influential author within this field, namely, Higgins PG, who has contributed a remarkable 39 documents to CRAB research. It is noteworthy that China leads in terms of the quantity of published research articles in this domain, whereas the United States occupies the foremost position about citations within the CRAB research sphere. Furthermore, a more profound exploration of the data yields a heightened understanding of the current status of CRAB research, emphasizing potential avenues for future investigations and underscoring the imperative need for collaborative initiatives to address the challenges posed by this antibiotic-resistant pathogen.

      We evaluated how the gender composition of top-cited authors within different subfields of research has evolved over time. We considered 9,071,122 authors with at least 5 full papers in Scopus as of September 1, 2022. Using a previously validated composite citation indicator, we identified the 2% top-cited authors for each of 174 science subfields (Science-Metrix classification) in 4 separate publication age cohorts (first publication pre-1992, 1992 to 2001, 2002 to 2011, and post-2011). Using NamSor, we assigned 3,784,507 authors as men and 2,011,616 as women (for 36.1% gender assignment uncertain). Men outnumbered women 1.88-fold among all authors, decreasing from 3.93-fold to 1.36-fold over time. Men outnumbered women 3.21-fold among top-cited authors, decreasing from 6.41-fold to 2.28-fold over time. In the youngest (post-2011) cohort, 32/174 (18%) subfields had > = 50% women, 97/174 (56%) subfields had > = 30% women, and 3 subfields had = <10% women among the top-cited authors. Gender imbalances in author numbers decreased sharply over time in both high-income countries (including the United States of America) and other countries, but the latter had little improvement in gender imbalances for top-cited authors. In random samples of 100 women and 100 men from the youngest (post-2011) cohort, in-depth assessment showed that most were currently (April 2023) working in academic environments. 32 women and 44 men had some faculty appointment, but only 2 women and 2 men were full professors. Our analysis shows large heterogeneity across scientific disciplines in the amelioration of gender imbalances with more prominent imbalances persisting among top-cited authors and slow promotion pathways even for the most-cited young scientists.

       PURPOSE: This paper aims to provide a bibliometric analysis of the maxillofacial reconstruction literature over 40 years and to compare the data with previous studies.
    METHODS: A bibliographical search for oral and maxillofacial surgery literature in maxillofacial reconstruction was conducted on Wef of Science. A graphic representation of authorship and keywords was created with VOSviewer. Mendeley and Microsoft Excel were used for tabulation and data visualization. Some statistical tests were performed with a 95% confidence interval, which was considered significant.
    RESULTS: A total of 7,417 articles from specialized journals were included in the study. These articles received 138,493 citations from 63,390 other studies, with an average citation count of 18.67, and a very high H-index. A total of 2,375 specific keywords were analyzed, covering a wide range of topics, with two noteworthy MeSH keywords that have recently gained prominence. A total of 33 journals were included in the study, with a mean Impact Factor of 2.404, indicating a relatively high influence in the subject area.
    CONCLUSION: The high h-index reflects abundant and high-quality literature on maxillofacial reconstruction, with the United States leading in publication quantity. Emerging topics in maxillofacial reconstruction were discussed. These areas shape the discipline, driving advancements and offering opportunities for researchers and clinicians to contribute to progress and improve patient outcomes.

      The impact of a scientific publication is often measured by the number of citations it receives from the scientific community. However, citation count is susceptible to well-documented variations in citation practices across time and discipline, limiting our ability to compare different scientific achievements. Previous efforts to account for citation variations often rely on a priori discipline labels of papers, assuming that all papers in a discipline are identical in their subject matter. Here, we propose a network-based methodology to quantify the impact of an article by comparing it with locally comparable research, thereby eliminating the discipline label requirement. We show that the developed measure is not susceptible to discipline bias and follows a universal distribution for all articles published in different years, offering an unbiased indicator for impact across time and discipline. We then use the indicator to identify science-wide high impact research in the past half century and quantify its temporal production dynamics across disciplines, helping us identifying breakthroughs from diverse, smaller disciplines, such as geosciences, radiology, and optics, as opposed to citation-rich biomedical sciences. Our work provides insights into the evolution of science and paves a way for fair comparisons of the impact of diverse contributions across many fields.

      Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), emerging pollutants, are widely distributed in aquatic environments, and are tightly linked to human health. However, the research progress and trends in recent years on ARGs of aquatic environments are still unclear. This paper made a comprehensive understanding of the research advance, study trends and key topics of 1592 ARGs articles from 2012 to 2022 by bibliometrics. Publications on ARGs increased rapidly from 2012 to 2022, and scholars paid closer attention to the field of Environmental Sciences & Ecology. The most influential country and institution was mainly China and Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively. The most articles (14.64 %) were published in the journal Science of the total environment. China and USA had the most cooperation, and USA was more inclined to international cooperation. PCR-based methods for water ARG research were the most widely used, followed by metagenomics. The most studied ARG types were sulfonamides, tetracyclines. Moreover, ARGs from wastewater and rivers were popularly concerned. Current topics mainly included pollution investigation, characteristics, transmission, reduction and risk identification of ARGs. Additionally, future research directions were proposed. Generally, by bibliometrics, this paper reviews the research hotspots and future directions of ARGs on a global scale, and summarizes the more important categories of ARGs, the pollution degree of ARGs in the relevant water environment and the research methods, which can provide a more comprehensive information for the future breakthrough of resistance mechanism, prevention and control standard formulation of ARGs.

      Many studies have investigated gender disparity in scientific publications, but this has been poorly studied in the field of digestive diseases. This study aimed to determine the gender difference of first and senior authors in publications related to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) during the past 20 years. Data were derived from original articles published in the main journals of digestive diseases (Journal of Hepatology, Gut, Gastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Digestive Endoscopy, Journal of Gastroenterology, Helicobacter, and Gastric Cancer) in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. These original articles were classified according to the gender and nationality of the first and senior (last listed) authors. Linear-by-linear association test was used to analyze the proportion of women authors over time. Multivariable logistic regression was applied to explain the factors impacting authorship difference of first and senior authors. A total of 561 original articles on H. pylori were collected for this study, accounting for 10.70% in 2000 to 7.60% in 2020 among all articles. In these original articles, the percentage of women first authors increased from 14.60% in 2000 to 45.0% in 2020 (P < .001). The percentage of women senior authors increased from 5.60% in 2000 to 18.80% in 2020 (P < .001). Women first authors were more likely to perform research with women senior authors (18.42%) than with men senior authors (10.23%, P < .001). The proportion of women first authors from Oceania were higher than that from North and South America (P = .004), whereas there was no statistical difference regarding women senior authors. In the past 2 decades, although the percentage of women authors among both first and senior authors in the field of H. pylori research has increased significantly, women are still a minority in original research.

      Necroptosis is a new type of programmed cell death discovered in recent years, playing an important role in various diseases. Since it was conceptualized in 2005, research on necroptosis has developed rapidly. However, few bibliometric analyses have provided a comprehensive overview of the field. This study aimed to employ a bibliometric analysis to assess necroptosis research's current status and hotspot, highlight landmark findings, and orientate future research. A total of 3993 publications from the WoSCC were collected for this study. Multiple tools were used for bibliometric analysis and data visualization, including an online website, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and HistCite. Publications related to necroptosis have increased significantly annually, especially in the last 5 years. Globally, the USA and Harvard University are the most outstanding countries and institutions in this field, respectively. The academic groups managed by Peter Vandenabeele and Junying Yuan both have permanent and intensive research on necroptosis. Cell Death and Differentiation is the most vital journal in this field. The molecular mechanisms of necroptosis and its role in disease are the focus of current research, while the crosstalk between programmed cell death is an emerging direction in the field. The "reactive oxygen species", "innate immunity", and "programmed cell death" may be potential research hotspots. Our results present a comprehensive knowledge map and explore research trends. Researchers and funding agencies on necroptosis can obtain helpful references from our study.

      Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common joint disease worldwide and, with the progression of an aging population, is one of the most important causes of disability worldwide. Its main symptoms include articular cartilage damage, periarticular pain, swelling, and stiffness. Intra-articular (IA) injections offer many advantages over systemic administration and surgical treatment, including direct action on the target joint to improve local bioavailability, reduce systemic toxicity, and lower costs. This study analyzed KOA intra-articular injection treatment and its hot literature and research horizons using bibliometric methodologies and graphical tools to aid future research. We performed a bibliometric analysis of 2360 publications in the Web of Science core collection using CiteSpace software. The United States (28.26% of publications) and China (18%) had the biggest publications. Rush University was the most active institution, but Boston University had the greatest citation/publication rate (65.77), suggesting a high literature standard. The majority of publications were in Osteoarthritis and cartilage. Bannuru RR was the most referenced author, while Filardo, Giuseppe was the most productive author. Studies in platelet-rich plasma (PRP), mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and microsphere formulation are likely to be future research hotspots. The current scientometric study provides an overview of KOA intra-articular injection therapy studies from 2012 to 2022. This study outlines the current research hotspots and potential future research hotspots in the field of intra-articular injection treatment for KOA and may serve as a resource for researchers interested in this topic.

      Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an autoimmune disease with complex inflammatory mechanism. The aim of this study is to apply the methods of bibliometrics and knowledge mapping to analyze the research trends and hot spots of B cells intervention in inflammatory mechanism of AS. Global published articles on B-cells intervention in inflammatory mechanism of AS were retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) database from 2004 to 2023. CiteSpace 6.1.R6 software was used to conduct the visualization analysis of countries, authors, institutions, references and keywords in this field. A total of 359 related articles were collected. Since 2004, the number of articles published in the field of B cells intervention in inflammatory mechanism of AS has shown a fluctuating upward trend. The 29 core authors are part of a research group centered on Bowness, Paul and Breban, Maxime. The main research institutions are Anhui Med Univ and Charite. Co-citation analysis reveals that research in this field is currently focused on "intergenic region" and "bone mineral density." Keyword analysis shows that the current research hotspots and trends in this field mainly focus on the cellular immune mechanism, humoral immune mechanism and clinical application value of B cells intervention in inflammatory mechanism of AS. In the past 20 years, the research on the mechanism of B cells intervention in AS inflammation has focused on B cells intervention in AS inflammation through humoral and cellular immune mechanisms. The future research focus may tend to use B cells as a new therapeutic target for AS.

       OBJECTIVES: Among different renal replacement therapies (RRTs), peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a family based treatment method with multiple advantages, which allowing patients to maintain autonomy, avoiding frequent hospital visits, and preventing the spread of the disease virus. To visually analyze the literatures related to volume management of PD patients through bibliometric methods, to explore research hotspots and development trends in this field.
    METHODS: The relevant literatures of PD patient volume management in the Web of Science core collection database were retrieved with the terms of peritoneal dialysis, volume management, capacity management, fluid status, and volume overload. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to October 2022. CiteSpace 6.1.R3 software was used to visually analyze Country, Institution, Author, Keyword, and draw keyword clusters and keyword emergence maps.
    RESULTS: A total of 788 articles were included in the analysis, and the annual number of papers was on the rise, with the American, China, and Brirain in the top three, and Peking University and University College London in the top. Keywords cluster analysis showed 11 clusters. In the keyword emergence analysis, the keywords with higher emergence intensity rank are continuous cyclic peritoneal dialysis, ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, and icodextrin. The current research hotspots and trends are in the evaluation of peritoneal dialysis patients' volume status, the selection and adjustment of dialysis prescriptions, and adverse health outcomes.
    CONCLUSION: The research on peritoneal dialysis volume management in China started late, but it has developed rapidly, and has a firm grasp of current research hotspots. However, there is less cooperation with other countries, so international exchanges and cooperation should be strengthened. At present, the volume assessment methods and dialysis modes are still the research hotspots, paying more attention to the adverse health outcomes of patients.

      This paper presents the global research landscape and scientific progress on occupant thermal comfort in naturally ventilated buildings (OTC-NVB). Despite the growing interest in the area, comprehensive papers on the current status and future developments on the topic are currently lacking. Hence, the publication trends, bibliometric analysis, and systematic literature review of the published documents on OTC-NVB were examined. The search query "Thermal Comfort" AND "Natural Ventilation" AND "Buildings" was designed and executed to recover related documents on the topic from the Elsevier Scopus database. Results showed that 976 documents (comprising articles, conference papers, reviews, etc.) were published on the topic from 1995 to 2021. Further analysis showed that 97.34% of the publications were published in the English language. Richard J.de Dear (University of Sydney, Australia) is the most prolific researcher on OTC-NVB research, while Energy and Buildings has the highest publications. Bibliometric analysis showed high publications, citations, keywords, and co-authorships among researchers, whereas the most occurrent keywords are ventilation, natural ventilation, thermal comfort, buildings, and air conditioning. Systematic literature review demonstrated that OTC-NVB research has progressed significantly from empirical to computer-based studies involving complex mathematical equations, programs, or software like artificial neural networks (ANN) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In general, OTC-NVB research findings indicate that physiological, social, and environmental factors considerably influence OTC in NVBs. Future studies will likely employ artificial intelligence or building performance simulation (BPS) tools to examine relationships between OTC and indoor air/environmental quality, human behavior, novel clothing, or building materials in NVBs.

      The COVID-19 pandemic due to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus showed acute and prolonged effects on human health. In addition, over the past four years, there has been a tremendous surge in COVID-19-related scientific publications, as shown by bibliometric and scientometric studies. However, such analysis of the scientific literature is lacking in the area of male reproduction. The current scientometric study analyzes publication characteristics of articles related to male reproduction and COVID-19 infection. We used the Scopus database to analyze scientometric data (the number of publications, journals, countries, type of documents, and subject area) related to COVID-19 and male reproductive research. Our literature search identified 345 articles related to COVID-19 and male reproductive research. Most of the articles were published in the USA (n = 72), Italy (n = 55), and China (n = 51). Such research was mainly focused around medicine (57.1%), followed by biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology (25.7%). Also, in the area of male reproduction, only 37.1% (n = 128) of the articles contributed towards original research, whereas 52.8% (n = 182) were review articles and editorials focusing more on sexual dysfunction than infertility. Such a small number of studies published on COVID-19-related effects on male reproduction warrants a significant increase in research, which is required to decipher the mechanism(s) underlying SARS-CoV-2 infection-associated impairment of male reproductive function.

      Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) have been extensively studied in dementia than its prodromal stage, known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A scientometric study on BPSD in MCI would be valuable in synthesizing the existing body of research and providing insights into the trends, networks, and influencers within this area. We searched for related literature in the Web of Science database and extracted complete text and citation records of each publication. The primary objective was to map the research evolution of BPSD in MCI and highlight dominant research themes. The secondary objective was to identify research network characteristics (authors, journals, countries, and institutions) and abundances. A total of 12,369 studies published between 1980 to 2022 were included in the analysis. We found 51 distinct clusters from the co-cited reference network that were highly credible with significant modularity (Q = 0.856) and silhouette scores (S = 0.932). Five major research domains were identified: symptoms, diagnosis, brain substrates, biochemical pathways, and interventions. In recent years, the research focus in this area has been on gut microbiota, e-health, COVID-19, cognition, and delirium. Collectively, findings from this scientometric analysis can help clarify the scope and direction of future research and clinical practices.

      Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complex constellation of symptoms that significantly reduces the quality of life among affected individuals and increases public health expenditures. We conducted a search on the Web of Science Core Collection database and selected the top 100 cited articles in the field of CFS. Several literature analysis tools, including CiteSpace 6.1.R6, VOSviewer 1.6.19, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.30, were utilized to integrate the most influential research papers and academic journals in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the CFS field. The top 100 highly-cited publications were published in 67 reputable journals, with contributions from 250 institutions across 26 countries/regions involved in CFS research. This demonstrates the extensive attention and coverage of CFS research by high-quality academic journals and institutions, highlighting the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature of CFS studies. The journal with the highest publication volume and total citations was Lancet. The top 5 co-occurring keywords were chronic fatigue syndrome, cognitive behavior therapy, epidemiology, definition, and disorders, indicating the ongoing attention researchers have devoted to the diagnostic criteria and clinical studies of CFS. Cluster analysis results suggested that primary care, infectious retrovirus, gene expression, and metabolomics may become the focal points and trends in future CFS research. The prospective research directions in this field include the search for biological markers, with a particular focus on immunology; the advancement of diagnostic techniques; the screening of risk genes associated with CFS; and the conduct of epidemiological investigations.

      The aim of this paper was to study the top-cited per year (CPY) original articles published in the leading subspecialty journals in gynecologic oncology and in the leading general obstetrics and gynecology journals. We used the Web of Science and iCite databases to mine the original articles and review articles in the field of gynecologic oncology in the following journals: Gynecologic Oncology, The International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Obstetrics & Gynecology. Top CPY articles from the four journals were analyzed and compared in a two-time point analysis. A total of 23,252 original articles and reviews were identified. The 100 Top-CPY articles were published from 1983 to 2021. Seventy (70%) in Gynecologic Oncology journal, 20 (20%) in The International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, eight (8%) in Obstetrics & Gynecology and two (2%) in The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The most common study methodology was observational studies (20%), followed by guidelines/consensus papers (19%). The most common study topic was ovarian cancer (41%). North America originating authors composed 62% of the top CPY publications, followed by Europe (21%). The most common country of authorship was the United States (52%) followed by Canada (10%). CPY were similar in the publications before vs. after 2014 (P=.19). Study designs, study topics and continent of authorship were similar in both periods. The proportion of multi-center studies was higher after 2014 (66.6% vs. 28.8%, P=0.002) and the proportion of open access publications was higher after 2014 (66.6% vs. 15.4%, P<.001). Funded studies were more common after 2014 (75.0% vs. 53.8%, P=0.028). Ovarian cancer is the top CPY area of research in gynecologic oncology. This field is leaded by authors from the United States with multi-center studies proportion increasing in recent years. It is important to promote further high-quality research in other countries to disseminate knowledge and equality.

      Phlebitis secondary to vascular access is one of the most frequent complications in hospital care. This study aims to evaluate the scientific activity related to this complication through a bibliometric analysis. The search was performed on a single day, 23 January 2023, to ensure the inclusion of all articles and to avoid bias caused by the daily updates of the open access database. The data were recovered from Web of Science. The sample comprised a total of 1596 publications that met the inclusion criteria. The United States was the country with the largest number of publications, citations, and international cooperation with respect to phlebitis and vascular access. The most important author was Rickard CM. Of all the publications selected, a total of 1586 (99.37%) were original articles. The highest number of articles on the subject was recorded in 2021, and the most common research areas were General Internal Medicine and Nursing. The analysis of the clusters (KeyWords Plus and Author keywords) and co-occurrences enabled identification of areas of interest and their possible development. These areas included the prevention, risk, and associated complications of catheter-associated phlebitis. Other aspects that are a priori relevant, such as assessment and treatment, were found to be little investigated. While research on this subject is increasing internationally, more collaborations are still required between researchers, as well as new approaches related to the management of catheter-associated phlebitis. The dimensions that should continue to be considered in new research, according to the findings of this review, are instruments for phlebitis assessment and their validation, and the treatments to follow in the case of established phlebitis. For this reason, the bibliometric information presented is key for new or consolidated researchers in the field, especially because of its practical and clinical implications for patient safety.

      Antibiotics are one of the greatest inventions in human history and are used worldwide on an enormous scale. Besides its extensive usage in medical and veterinary arenas to treat and prevent the infection, its application is very prominent in other fields, including agriculture, aquaculture, and horticulture. In recent decades, the increased consumption of antibiotics in China saw a vast increase in its production and disposal in various environments. However, in this post-antibiotic era, the abuse and misuse of these valuable compounds could lead to the unreversible consequence of drug resistance. In China, antibiotics are given a broad discussion in various fields to reveal their impact on both human/animals health and the environment. To our knowledge, we are the first paper to look back at the development trend of antibiotic-related studies in China with qualitative and quantitative bibliometric analysis from the past decades. Our study identified and analyzed 5559 papers from its inception (1991) to December 6, 2021, from the Web of Science Core Collection database. However, with few authors and institutions focusing on long-term studies, we found the quality of contributions was uneven. Studies mainly focused on areas such as food science, clinical research, and environmental studies, including molecular biology, genetics and environmental, ecotoxicology, and nutrition, which indicate possible primary future trends. Our study reports on including potentially new keywords, studies' milestones, and their contribution to antibiotic research. We offer potential topics that may be important in upcoming years that could help guide future research.

      Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical illness with a wide variety of clinical signs ranging from visceral to cutaneous symptoms, resulting in millions of new cases and thousands of fatalities reported annually. This article provides a bibliometric analysis of the main authors' contributions, institutions, and nations in terms of productivity, citations, and bibliographic linkages to the application of nanoparticles (NPs) for the treatment of leishmania. The study is based on a sample of 524 Scopus documents from 1991 to 2022. Utilising the Bibliometrix R-Tool version 4.0 and VOSviewer software, version 1.6.17 the analysis was developed. We identified crucial subjects associated with the application of NPs in the field of antileishmanial development (NPs and drug formulation for leishmaniasis treatment, animal models, and experiments). We selected research topics that were out of date and oversaturated. Simultaneously, we proposed developing subjects based on multiple analyses of the corpus of published scientific literature (title, abstract, and keywords). Finally, the technique used contributed to the development of a broader and more specific "big picture" of nanomedicine research in antileishmanial studies for future projects.

      Background: Exosomes and cancer immunology are both important areas of research for cancer treatment. As much effort has been made to explore the relationship between exosomes and cancer immunology, exosomes in cancer immunology have become a hotspot in medical research. Methods: We retrieved all relevant publications between 2011 and 2021 from the Web of Science and utilized Microsoft Excel 365, Citespace, Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology (http://bibliometric.com/) and software including VOS viewer to analyze and visualize the research result. Results: Of the 820 studies included, China published the most articles, followed by the USA. Cooperation between countries has progressed over the past decade. Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Oncotargets and Therapy were the institution and journal that published the most articles respectively. The most frequently cited article in this field, titled "Pancreatic cancer exosomes initiate pre-metastatic niche formation in the liver," was published in Nature Cell Biology. Keywords were divided into three: Mechanism research, treatment application research, and diagnosis and prognosis research of which the latter was the newest cluster. "Microenvironment," "PD-L1" and "M2 macrophage" were representative new keywords while "tumor suppressor" was the keyword cited most frequently. Conclusion: The publication trend shows that cooperation between different countries and institutions contributes to the development of this field. Researchers should continue to extend collaborations for further advances. The rising relative research interest indicated that this is a hot topic with great research potential. Macrophages polarization and PD-L1 application in tumor immunotherapy are worthy of further research. Hotspots will likely transfer from mechanistic research to clinical research, particularly for methods to increase the survival rate and improve the prognosis of cancer patients.

      This study conducted a comprehensive patent and bibliometric analysis to elucidate the evolving scientific landscape surrounding the development and application of pulse oximeters, including in the field of digital medicine. Utilizing data from the Lens database for the period of 2000-2023, we identified the United States, China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom as the predominant countries in patent issuance for pulse oximeter technology. Our bibliometric analysis revealed a consistent temporal trend in both the volume of publications and citations, underscoring the growing importance of pulse oximeters in digitally-enabled medical practice. Using the VOSviewer software(version 1.6.18), we discerned six primary research clusters: (1) measurement accuracy; (2) integration with the Internet of Things; (3) applicability across diverse pathologies; (4) telemedicine and mobile applications; (5) artificial intelligence and deep learning; and (6) utilization in anesthesiology, resuscitation, and intensive care departments. The findings of this study indicate the prospects for leveraging digital technologies in the use of pulse oximetry in various fields of medicine, with implications for advancing the understanding, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cardio-respiratory pathologies. The conducted patent and bibliometric analysis allowed the identification of technical solutions to reduce the risks associated with pulse oximetry: improving precision and validity, technically improved clinical diagnostic use, and the use of machine learning.

      (1) Background: Health literacy (HL) debates have increased significantly in the last two decades. HL concepts/themes and models have achieved substantial development in the US and Europe. Although there have been some efforts to develop HL in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), these seem to be few and scattered. This paper reviews and discusses developments of HL concepts and themes globally and in LAC over the last two decades. (2) Purpose: This study aimed to identify the prevalent health literacy concepts/themes deployed globally and in LAC as reported in academic journals from 2005 to 2022. We looked into which fields of knowledge have been informing HL research over the last decades. (3) Methods: We conducted a structured search on the Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, PubMed, and SciELO databases to extract the textual data for bibliometric analysis. We analyzed the textual data with VOSviewer and Biblioshiny to better understand health literacy themes and strands currently being researched in the LAC region. We conducted the searches in two periods: the first in May 2023 and the second in October 2023. (4) Results: The bibliometric study highlighted five WoS categories informing most HL global studies: (i) public environmental occupational health; (ii) environmental sciences; (iii) health policy services; (iv) health care science services; and (v) communication. The two predominant categories in LAC are public environmental occupation health and health policy services. Journals hosting HL publications come from these WoS categories. Themes in HL publications can be organized into four thematic clusters: (i) analytical (research designs, analytic techniques, and criteria for examining HL data); (ii) psychometric (measurement properties of data collection tools); (iii) pragmatic (practical issues related to implementing HL programs); and (iv) well-being (effectiveness of HL programs on mental health and illness treatment). (5) Conclusions: There is expanding interest in health literacy among scholars. The number of publications has increased substantially, particularly over the last five years. These are dominated by the Global North. The metrics show that LAC and Africa are trailing in publications. There is an emerging focus on adult literacy, functional/low health literacy, and their effect on improving capabilities, comprehension, and communication regarding health-related topics.

      This study aims to explore the intellectual landscape and research hotspots in the central venous catheter-related thrombosis (CVC-RT) research field. Studies discussing CVC-RT published from 1973 to 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection database were retrieved on February 24th, 2022. Citespace was used to perform a scientometric analysis to identify the intellectual landscape and research hotspots in the research fields of CVC-RT. A total of 4358 studies were retrieved, with an ascending trend in publication numbers. The United States of America was the most influential country. The Journal of Vascular Access published the most studies, and McMaster University was the most prolific institution. The results showed that the focus population of CVC-RT research has changed from pediatric patients to cancer patients, the management of CVC-RT has become more formal and standardized, and the focused CVC type has shifted to port and peripherally inserted central catheters. In addition, seventeen active burst keywords were detected, such as patient safety, clinical practice guidelines, and postthrombotic syndrome. This study comprehensively reviewed publications related to CVC-RT. The research topics on patient safety, clinical practice guidelines, and postthrombotic syndrome related to CVC-RT may be future hotspots.

      Background and Objectives: Single-Event Multi-Level Surgery (SEMLS) is a complex surgical programme in which soft tissue contractures and bony torsional deformities at the ankle, knee and hip, in both lower limbs are surgically corrected during a single operative session, requiring one hospital admission and one period of rehabilitation. The aim of SEMLS is to improve gait and function in ambulant children with cerebral palsy. Utilisation of the SEMLS concept can reduce the number of surgical events, hospital inpatient stays and reduce rehabilitation requirements to a single intensive episode. Three-dimensional gait analysis is a pre-requisite to plan intervention at multiple anatomic levels to correct fixed deformities and to improve gait and function. Materials and Methods: This study was a bibliometric analysis of SEMLS in cerebral palsy using the Clarivate Web of Science Core Collection database from 1900 to 29 May 2023. Results: A total of 84 studies met the inclusion criteria. The most highly cited article was "Correction of severe crouch gait in patients with spastic diplegia with use of multilevel orthopaedic surgery" by Rodda et al. (2006) with 141 citations. The most productive institutions by number of articles were the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne (Australia), Murdoch Children's Research Institute (Australia) and University of Melbourne (Australia). The most productive author by number of citations was HK Graham (Australia). Conclusions: The literature base for SEMLS consists largely of retrospective cohort studies. The aforementioned three institutes in Melbourne, Australia, which frequently collaborate together, have contributed the greatest number of studies in this field.

      Indoor microplastic (MP) pollution is becoming a worldwide issue because people spend more time inside. Through dust and air, indoor MP pollution may harm human health. This review summarizes recent advancements in indoor MP research, covering pretreatments, quality control, filter membranes, and identification methods. Additionally, it conducts bibliometric analysis to examine the usage of keywords, publication records, and authors' contributions to the field. Comparatively, dust and deposition samples exhibit higher MP concentrations than indoor air samples. Fiber-shaped MPs are commonly detected indoors. The color and types of MPs display variability, with polypropylene, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, and polystyrene identified as the dominant MPs. Indoor environments generally demonstrate higher concentrations of MPs than outdoor environments, and MPs in the lower size range (1-100 µm) are typically more abundant. Among the reviewed articles, 45.24% conducted pretreatment on their samples, while 16.67% did not undergo any pretreatment. The predominant filter utilized in most studies was the Whatman Glass microfiber filter (41.67%), and MPs were predominantly characterized using µ-FTIR (19.23%). In the literature, 17 papers used blank samples, and eight did not. Blank findings were not included in most research (23 articles). A significant increase in published articles has been observed since 2020, with an annual growth rate exceeding 10%. The keyword microplastics had the highest frequency, followed by fibers. This indoor MP study emphasizes the need for collaborative research, policymaking, and stakeholder involvement to reduce indoor MP pollution. As indoor MP research grows, so are opportunities to identify and minimize environmental and health impacts.

      To evaluate the impact of copublication on hypertension-related clinical practice guidelines' citation, we searched the Web of Science Core Collection and guide.medlive.cn until 31 December 2017 using the terms "hypertension" and "guideline". The copublished group was matched with the noncopublished group at a 1:2 ratio. Primary outcomes were total citations and citations within the first five years after publication. Secondary outcomes included the adjusted impact factor ratio (excluding copublished guidelines) to the actual impact factor of the journal. Altmetric scores were compared using Altmetric explorer data. 21 copublished and 42 noncopublished guidelines were included. The copublished group had higher median current total citations [387.0 (90.0, 1806.0) vs 70.5 (23.25, 158.25)], and higher median citations at one, two, three, four, and five years [7.0 (0.5, 58.5) vs 1.0 (0.0, 5.5), 33.0 (14.0, 142.0) vs 5.5 (1.75, 26.25), 46.0 (24.5, 216.0) vs 10.5 (3, 25.75), 50.0 (19.0, 229.0) vs 9.0 (3.0, 19.0), 52.0 (13.5, 147.0) vs 7.0 (2.0, 20.0), all p < 0.05]. The adjusted IF analysis showed that if they had not copublished the guidelines, 10 of 24 and 11 of 24 journals would have had a lower IF in the first and second years. Median altmetric scores were significantly higher for copublished guidelines [38.5 (9.5, 90.5) vs 3.5 (1.0, 9.0)] (p < 0.05). Copublication is associated with a higher citation frequency of hypertension guidelines and may increase the journal IF. Positive impacts extend beyond academia, benefiting society through broader guideline application and dissemination. This facilitates broader application of guidelines and promotes their dissemination. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to demonstrate how copublication promotes the dissemination of hypertension guidelines.

       BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Neurosurgical research is a rapidly evolving field, with new research topics emerging continually. To provide a clearer understanding of the evolving research landscape, our study aimed to identify and analyze the prevalent research topics and trends in Neurosurgery.
    METHODS: We used BERTopic, an advanced natural language processing-based topic modeling approach, to analyze papers published in the journal Neurosurgery. Using this method, topics were identified based on unique sets of keywords that encapsulated the core themes of each article. Linear regression models were then trained on the topic probabilities to identify trends over time, allowing us to identify "hot" (growing in prominence) and "cold" (decreasing in prominence) topics. We also performed a focused analysis of the trends in the current decade.
    RESULTS: Our analysis led to the categorization of 12 438 documents into 49 distinct topics. The topics covered a wide range of themes, with the most commonly identified topics being "Spinal Neurosurgery" and "Treatment of Cerebral Ischemia." The hottest topics of the current decade were "Peripheral Nerve Surgery," "Unruptured Aneurysms," and "Endovascular Treatments" while the cold topics were "Chiari Malformations," "Thromboembolism Prophylaxis," and "Infections."
    CONCLUSION: Our study underscores the dynamic nature of neurosurgical research and the evolving focus of the field. The insights derived from the analysis can guide future research directions, inform policy decisions, and identify emerging areas of interest. The use of natural language processing in synthesizing and analyzing large volumes of academic literature demonstrates the potential of advanced analytical techniques in understanding the research landscape, paving the way for similar analyses across other medical disciplines.

      Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a prolonged multifactorial autoimmune disease of unknown etiology. With the global population aging, the incidence of RA is increasing, highlighting the need for more effective treatments. Exercise interventions have been recognized as safe and effective for managing pain, improving function, and reducing fatigue in RA patients. However, the existing literature in this field lacks a thorough, organized, and clear line of analysis. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the 20-year literature on exercise interventions for RA, aiming to identify hotspots and cutting-edge trends. Our objective is to provide subsequent researchers with valuable ideas and references. Using Cite Space, VOS viewer, and R-bibliometrix software for visualization and analysis, we compiled the main dataset from the web of science database, consisting of 1790 articles on exercise interventions in RA published between 2000 and 2023. Among these articles, the United States contributed the highest number of papers (433), while Karolinska Institutet ranked first institutionally with 90 papers. The study focused on the keyword's quality of life, cardiovascular disease, aerobic exercise, social support, psychology, and multidisciplinary care. The research highlighted the importance of clinical efficacy studies that investigate different types of exercise modalities (cardiorespiratory aerobic, resistance, aquatic, and neurological) either alone or in combination, to improve pain and function and reduce cardiovascular disease risk in patients with RA. Additionally, sedentary behavior, fatigue, and multidisciplinary care were identified as potential areas for further research. Overall, this study provides a scientific perspective on exercise interventions for RA and offers valuable insights for academics, funding organizations, and policymakers.

       OBJECTIVES: To investigate the hot topics in acupuncture-moxibustion research for treatment of aphasia and explore the current situation and trend of technology transformation in this field through analyzing the relevant Chinese literatures in recent 30 years by means of knowledge graph technology.
    METHODS: CiteSpace 6.1.R 2 and VOSviewer V1.6.16 software were used to collate the data, draw knowledge graphs and conduct visual analysis of the literatures related to acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of aphasia, searched from CNKI, WanFang and VIP databases.The time line view and strongest bursts of keywords were formed in the field of acupuncture-moxibustion treatment for aphasia. The treatment-based keyword networks were visualized.
    RESULTS: A total of 773 Chinese articles were included. Through visual analysis of the co-occurrence networks, the top 10 high-frequency overall keywords and the top 10 clusters of overall keywords were listed. The top 5 high-frequency aphasia categories were Broca aphasia, hysterical aphasia, transcortical motor aphasia, nominal aphasia and sensory aphasia. Regarding the keywords of the techniques of acupuncture-moxibustion, the occurrence frequencies of scalp acupuncture, tongue acupuncture, body acupuncture and electroacupuncture were ≥ 10 times.The occurrence frequencies of 16 acupoints were ≥25 times. After collation and cluster analysis of acupoints and techniques of acupuncture-moxibustion, 7 keyword clusters of "acupuncture techniques-acupoints" were obtained. The time line view showed that the strongest burst of keywords were transcranial magnatic stimulation, language rehabilitation training, acupuncture-medicine therapy and stroke, etc. in the recent 5 years.
    CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture-moxibustion displays its unique advantage in treatment of aphasia. With the deepening of modern research, the hot topics for aphasia treated with acupuncture-moxibustion are present and the achievements enriched. In future, these therapeutic methods should be further investigated to explore a model of translational medicine for aphasia in line with the characteristics of acupuncture-moxibustion.

      As an alternative to harmful chemical fertilizers and toward fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, growth promoting rhizobacterial bioinoculants, emerged as potential players. These act in multifunctional ways, including seed colonization, seed germination, stress tolerance and many more, leading to proper growth and development of plants. Biopriming seeds with these beneficial multi-trait microbes is an effective way to introduce them in the soil, and this is an example of bottom-up approach of rhizosphere engineering. Using such sustainable approach is promising and, to investigate and analyze, their research trends are of prime importance. Thus, data were retrieved using Lens and Scopus databases and used for patent landscaping and citation network analysis, respectively. For patent landscaping, documents obtained using customized keyword search were broadly from the past 35 years (1987-2022) and yielded 114 patents which were manually curated in title, abstract and claims (TAC). From the year 2000, interest in this area was observed which further gained momentum from the year 2008, and a maximum peak was observed in the year 2021. Patent profile (filed, granted and published) showed an upward trend during this tenure (1987-2022). In this research article, we aim to provide an overview of current research in this field, identify research hotspots, project future development prospects and make recommendations for further research. Patent landscaping and citation network analysis were used to analyze the recent trends in biopriming approaches using microbial bioinoculants for the first time to identify progress and hotspots in the field of seed priming with PGPRs.

      Background and Objectives: Since its invention in the 1970s, the cochlear implant (CI) has been substantially developed. We aimed to assess the trends in the published literature to characterize CI. Materials and Methods: We queried PubMed for all CI-related entries published during 1970-2022. The following data were extracted: year of publication, publishing journal, title, keywords, and abstract text. Search terms belonged to the patient's age group, etiology for hearing loss, indications for CI, and surgical methodological advancement. Annual trends of publications were plotted. The slopes of publication trends were calculated by fitting regression lines to the yearly number of publications. Results: Overall, 19,428 CIs articles were identified. Pediatric-related CI was the most dominant sub-population among the age groups, with the highest rate and slope during the years (slope 5.2 ± 0.3, p < 0.001), while elderly-related CIs had significantly fewer publications. Entries concerning hearing preservation showed the sharpest rise among the methods, from no entries in 1980 to 46 entries in 2021 (slope 1.7 ± 0.2, p < 0.001). Entries concerning robotic surgery emerged in 2000, with a sharp increase in recent years (slope 0.5 ± 0.1, p < 0.001). Drug-eluting electrodes and CI under local-anesthesia have been reported only in the past five years, with a gradual rise. Conclusions: Publications regarding CI among pediatrics outnumbered all other indications, supporting the rising, pivotal role of CI in the rehabilitation of children with sensorineural hearing loss. Hearing-preservation publications have recently rapidly risen, identified as the primary trend of the current era, followed by a sharp rise of robotic surgery that is evolving and could define the next revolution.

      There is a paucity of literature describing the research productivity among trainees in intensive care medicine. We sought to examine the occurrence and determinants of successful publication outcomes associated with intensive care training. The study cohort consisted of all individuals admitted to fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (CICM) from 2012 to 2019. The primary outcome measure of this study was manuscripts indexed on PubMed within one year after and four years prior to admittance to CICM fellowship. Four hundred and eighty-five fellows were identified of whom 216 (45%) had at least one publication; 129 (27%) had one, 34 (7%) had two, 21 (4%) had three and 32 (7%) had four or more publications. Overall 138 (28%) fellows had at least one publication that was likely associated with their mandatory CICM training project for which they were first (n = 110; 80%) and/or corresponding (n = 72; 52%) author in the majority of cases. Overall 107 different senior/mentor authors were identified, with 13 individuals supporting more than one publication. Although gender and location at the time of fellowship award were not associated, location of receipt of medical degree, shorter time period between medical school graduation and fellowship award, more recent year of award, and completion of medical degree/fellowship in the same geographical region were associated with project publication. A minority of CICM fellows have PubMed-indexed publications related to their training. Further efforts are warranted to better define the determinants of successful project publication to optimise future opportunities.

      Bamboo, a globally distributed non-timber forest resource, plays a critical role in local ecosystems and economies. Despite its significance, the understanding of bamboo's long and unpredictable flowering cycles remains limited. Our bibliometric analysis of bamboo flowering-related literature from the Web of Science database reveals an initial focus on regeneration studies, with a recent trend shifting towards microscopic and molecular perspectives. Furthermore, our narrative review emphasizes the importance of considering factors such as the proportion of flowering culms and the duration of flowering in classifying bamboo flowering phenomena. While numerous studies have endorsed the predator saturation hypothesis as a suitable explanation for the synchronicity of bamboo flowering, no existing theory explains bamboo's prolonged flowering cycles. We propose a new natural selection hypothesis as a potential explanation for these extraordinary cycles, underscoring the need for further research in this area. Despite the substantial volume of data accumulated on bamboo flowering, these resources have not been fully exploited in recent research. Future studies would benefit from more comprehensive data collection methods, encompassing field observations, satellite remote sensing data, and omics data. The convergence of traditional ecological studies with molecular techniques may pave the way for significant advancements in bamboo flowering research.

      Objective: To evaluate open science policies of imaging journals, and compliance to these policies in published articles. Methods: From imaging journals listed we extracted open science policy details: protocol registration, reporting guidelines, funding, ethics and conflicts of interest (COI), data sharing, and open access publishing. The 10 most recently published studies from each journal were assessed to determine adherence to these policies. We calculated the proportion of open science policies into an Open Science Score (OSS) for all journals and articles. We evaluated relationships between OSS and journal/article level variables. Results: 82 journals/820 articles were included. The OSS of journals and articles was 58.3% and 31.8%, respectively. Of the journals, 65.9% had registration and 78.1% had reporting guideline policies. 79.3% of journals were members of COPE, 81.7% had plagiarism policies, 100% required disclosure of funding, and 97.6% required disclosure of COI and ethics approval. 81.7% had data sharing policies and 15.9% were fully open access. 7.8% of articles had a registered protocol, 8.4% followed a reporting guideline, 77.4% disclosed funding, 88.7% disclosed COI, and 85.6% reported ethics approval. 12.3% of articles shared their data. 51% of articles were available through open access or as a preprint. OSS was higher for journal with DOAJ membership (80% vs 54.2%; P < .0001). Impact factor was not correlated with journal OSS. Knowledge synthesis articles has a higher OSS scores (44.5%) than prospective/retrospective studies (32.6%, 30.0%, P < .0001). Conclusion: Imaging journals endorsed just over half of open science practices considered; however, the application of these practices at the article level was lower.

       INTRODUCTION: Applying to general surgery residency is undoubtedly a competitive process. Participation in scholarly activity (SCA) has been cited as a criterion when selecting applicants for interview and in the ranking process. This study aims to evaluate the association between gender of applicants to surgery residency and SCA and to characterize trends in SCAs over time.
    METHODS: We analyzed the SCA of applicants interviewed at a general surgery residency program over 6-interview cycles (2016-2021). Eight SCA categories were included: (1) Poster Presentation, (2) Oral Presentation, (3) Peer-Reviewed (PR) Journal Articles/Abstracts, (4) PR Journal Articles/Abstracts (Other than Published), (5) PR Online Publication, (6) PR Book Chapter, (7) Nonpeer reviewed Online Publication, and (8) Other Articles/Scientific Monograph.
    RESULTS: Of a total of 335 interviewed applicants, 288 (86%) had at least one count of SCA. Overall, no difference between male and female applicants was noticed (n = 178, 84.8% versus n = 110, 88%, P = 0.409) and no change in percentage of SCA over the six cycles (P = 0.239). The most reported SCAs were poster presentations (n = 242, 72.2%), oral presentations (n = 159, 47.5%), PR journal articles/abstracts (n = 159, 47.5%). Female applicants have marginally higher median (interquartile range) for SCAs compared to male applicants (5 [3, 8] versus 4 [3, 8], P value 0.272).
    CONCLUSIONS: No association between gender and SCA among applicants for general surgery residency positions was observed. While more than three-fourths of applicants have at least one SCA, only a small fraction of applicants were published. Students should be made aware of the importance of SCA early in graduate medical education.
