       OBJECTIVE: Citation skew refers to the unequal distribution of citations to articles within a journal. The study aimed to assess citation skew in sleep science journals and whether the journal impact factor (JIF) predicts individual article citation rates.
    METHODS: The top ten sleep science journals were identified via the Journal Citation Report (JCR), and the number of citations in 2022 for all original and review articles from 2020 to 2021 was analyzed.
    RESULTS: Among 3,949 articles with 16,373 citations, a substantial proportion had either zero (16.0%) or one citation (18.7%) in 2022. Only 27.7% of articles exceeded their journal's JIF, while 72.3% fell below it. Review articles demonstrated higher citation rates than original research. Citation distribution was highly skewed, with 12.5% of articles accounting for 50% of all citations. Although citation rate correlated significantly with JIF (r = 0.21, p < 0.001), JIF explained only ~ 4.4% of the variance in article-level citations.
    CONCLUSION: Citation distributions in leading sleep journals are highly skewed, and journal impact factor has limited utility for predicting individual article influence. These findings support interpreting JIF cautiously and emphasize the value of article-level indicators and qualitative appraisal when assessing research impact. Future studies incorporating multiple JIF cycles and article-level citation provenance, including self-citation and citation-network effects, are needed to better characterize the drivers and temporal stability of citation behavior in sleep medicine.

      Research articles are increasingly being disseminated on social media, which is not captured by traditional bibliometrics. The Article-Level Metric score captures the 'social' impact of such research articles as well. The current bibliometric analysis was planned to identify predictors of high Altmetric score in the top-cited articles related to orthopaedic surgery. Multilevel, mixedmethod, linear regression was employed to adjust for clustering of article-level and journal-level factors among 810 articles from 27 journals. The study was conducted at Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan from June to December 2023. In multivariable, multilevel, linear regression, each additional citation led to a 0.33-unit increase in Article-Level Metric score (β=0.33, p=0.02), articles published in the Netherlands had a higher score by 10.6 units compared to Germany (β=10.60, p=0.01), and each additional unit increase in journal's impact factor increased the score by 1.73 units (β=1.73, p=0.04).

      Authorship on academic publications is consequential for researchers in science fields. One's position in a list of authors is typically used to signal information about author contributions and status, with the first and last author positions regarded as the most prestigious and important for career advancement. Therefore, any inequities that exist in the allocation of authorship (e.g., associated with gender or geography) could affect researchers' career progression. We assessed patterns in authorship at EcoHealth Alliance, a non-profit organization that conducted One Health and conservation research. We compiled a corpus of 451 peer-reviewed journal articles published from 2011-2022, each of which had at least one EcoHealth Alliance-affiliated author, and gathered information on the gender and country affiliation of authors in first and last author positions. Within the corpus, we found that gendered male researchers and researchers with high-income country (HIC) affiliations were often in prestigious author positions. Specifically, we found that gendered male authors represented 60% of first and last authors, 65% of first and last authorships (FLAs), and 91% of highly productive authors (those with ≥ 10 FLAs). Last authorships were particularly male-dominated, with 2.7 times as many last authorships by gendered male authors as by gendered female authors. Our network analysis revealed that gendered male authors were more structurally important to the author network on average and comprised 65% of highly "powerful" authors in the network. HICs were also overrepresented in the corpus, with 72% of FLAs listing an HIC affiliation. Though our analysis was based on articles with at least one EcoHealth Alliance-affiliated author, authorship affiliations in the corpus extended to nearly 250 institutions across 43 countries, suggesting broader applicability of our findings. We conclude by offering recommendations-informed by the patterns observed in our data and based on our personal experiences as researchers-that we believe would help address the gender and geography disparities in authorship patterns we observed.

       Objective: This study aimed to examine the distribution of theses on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in Türkiye, determine the publication rates of these theses in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and identify strategies to increase publication rates.
    Materials and Methods: Theses on HAIs completed between 2000 and 2023 were screened in the YÖKTEZ (National Thesis Center) database. For each thesis, the title, the author's specialty, academic degree, and year of completion were recorded. The included theses were subsequently searched across national and international databases to determine their publication status. For each identified publication, the article title, journal name, year of publication, and indexing status were documented.
    Results: A total of 1077 theses were included in the study. Of these, 34.2% were conducted in Medical Microbiology and 26.1% in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. Overall, 40.1% (n = 432) of the theses were converted into scientific publications. Among the published studies, 41.4% (n = 179) were indexed in Science Citation Index (SCI), Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E), or Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). No statistically significant difference in publication rates was observed between disciplines (p = 0.7).
    Conclusion: Although a substantial number of theses on HAIs have been conducted in Türkiye, the rate of conversion into academic publications remains lower than expected. Increasing awareness of this issue and developing solution-oriented strategies may improve scientific productivity and publication output in this field.

       BACKGROUND: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has become a vital life-support tool in critical care, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The rapid growth of ECMO research necessitates bibliometric analysis to identify trends, key contributors, and obstacles, including concerns regarding scientific integrity, such as retractions.
    METHODS: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database (search date: August 25, 2025), with the phrase "extracorporeal membrane oxygenation" searched in the title, abstract, or keywords. All English-language publications from 1958 and 2025 were covered. Data on publication trends, prominent countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and citation/Altmetric Attention Scores were obtained. Retractions were detected using standardized queries on PubMed, and data on publication year, retraction year, country, and reasons were obtained.
    RESULTS: A total of 26,786 ECMO-related publications were examined. The number of publications showed a significant upward trend (P < 0.001), peaking in 2022 with 240 articles. The United States was the leading country (n = 11,261), followed by Germany (n = 2,349), Italy (n = 1,756), China (n = 1,660), and the United Kingdom (n = 1,642). The ASAIO Journal was the most prolific source (n = 1,204). Harvard Medical School (n = 585) ranked first among institutions. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related papers dominated citation and altmetric impact, with the 2020 JAMA Wuhan cohort publication receiving the most citations (n = 17,423). Between 2012 and 2024, nine ECMO-related articles were retracted.
    CONCLUSION: This analysis highlights the significant global growth of ECMO research, demonstrating considerable academic and social impact, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results offer valuable insights into publication trends, major contributors, and research visibility, potentially informing future research and partnerships in this field.

       BACKGROUND: Academic promotion from associate professor (AP) to full professor (FP) in radiology relies heavily on bibliometrics, yet no subspecialty-specific benchmarks exist to guide promotion committees or faculty career planning. Applying uniform productivity standards across diverse subspecialties may disadvantage faculty in certain fields and fail to account for legitimate variations in research output. Hence, we aim to establish subspecialty-specific bibliometric benchmarks for promotion readiness from AP to FP in academic radiology and quantify the promotion gap across subspecialties.
    METHODS: We analyzed 1931 APs and 1759 FPs across nine radiology subspecialties at 136 US institutions between September 2025 and January 2026. Bibliometric data (publications, citations, h-index, first/last author publications) were obtained from Scopus. Upper-tier AP percentiles (60th-90th) defined "promotion readiness" benchmarks, while lower-tier FP percentiles (10th-40th) represented "entry thresholds." The promotion gap was quantified by comparing percentile distributions and calculating median bibliometric differences between ranks.
    RESULTS: Promotion readiness at the 80th percentile varied 4.2-fold for publications [154 (Neurointerventional) vs. 37 (Breast)], 4.5-fold for citations [3598 (Nuclear Medicine) vs. 799 (Musculoskeletal)], and 2.2-fold for h-index [31 (Neurointerventional) vs. 14 (Breast)] across subspecialties. An AP at the 80th percentile in Pediatric Radiology would rank at the 49th percentile among FPs (smallest gap), while one in Musculoskeletal Radiology would rank at the 29th percentile (largest gap)-a 21-percentile-point difference. The AP 80th percentile exceeded the FP 20th percentile for every subspecialty. Achieving median FP bibliometric levels would require APs to publish 2.67 (Breast Imaging) to 9.14 (Neurointerventional) additional papers annually, including one first/last-authored publication.
    CONCLUSION: Substantial variation exists in bibliometric profiles across radiology subspecialties, with notable differences in observed promotion gaps by subspecialty. These subspecialty-specific observed benchmarks can inform promotion committees and guide faculty career planning.

       Purpose: The period 2002-2021 saw an annual growth rate of 51.46% in listings of open access (OA) journals in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), with a steeper rate of growth corresponding with the onset of COVID-19. The introduction of OA and hybrid models, which give authors traditional subscription and OA options, may have led to increased article processing charges (APCs). This study aimed to analyze the APCs for ophthalmology journal articles after the COVID pandemic and analyze changes in publication modality and cost.
    Methods: APC, frequency of publication, and impact factor (IF) were analyzed for 83 MEDLINE-indexed ophthalmology journals. Data were stratified based on publication modality (OA, hybrid, or traditional), and geodistribution, intermodality, and correlation between APC and IF were compared.
    Results: Average APC for OA, hybrid, and traditional journals was $1,310.49, $3,550.71, and $7.18, respectively (P < 0.001). Univariate analysis demonstrated a statistically significant impact of hybrid mode (P < 0.001), traditional mode (P = 0.046), and IF >1 (P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis demonstrated a statistically significant effect of the modality of publication on journal APC. Intermodality analysis showed significantly higher APC for hybrid journals than OA or traditional journals, without statistically significant differences in frequency of publication or IF.
    Conclusions: Ophthalmology journals are experiencing a subject-wide transition from traditional publication to hybrid modality. Since the COVID pandemic, APCs across all publication modes have increased, and there has been a transition from the traditional publishing model to a more lucrative hybrid model.

       BACKGROUND: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index uses fasting triglycerides and glucose, offering a reliable, cost-effective alternative to traditional insulin resistance methods, especially in resource-limited settings, supported by extensive validation studies. Recent research trends indicate that the TyG index has received widespread attention and rapid development, especially in the cardiovascular field; however, no bibliometric analysis of the TyG index has been performed. We applied bibliometrics to examine research on the TyG index.
    METHODS: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection database for studies on the TyG index from January 1, 2014, to July 31, 2024. Bibliometric analyses were conducted using VOSviewer, the R package "Bibliometrix," and CiteSpace.
    RESULTS: We included 652 TyG index-related studies, and the number of publications showed an overall upward trend. The United States of America and China had the highest number of publications. Studies published in the United States of America received the most citations, and China had the most extensive international cooperation. The University of Melbourne was the leading institution in publications; although interagency cooperation occurred, it was mostly within the country. The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health was the most popular journal, and Diabetes Care was the most co-cited journal. Among the 4114 authors, Li and Zhang had the highest publication counts, and Alberti Kgmm was extensively co-cited. A study by Matthews et al (1985) was the most frequently cited article, while a study by Pillinger et al (2020) had the highest "Strength." "Metabolic syndrome" (101, 17%), "obesity" (14%), and "insulin resistance" (9%) were the most commonly used keywords. Public data mining to investigate the disease network of the TyG index may be a popular clinical research direction.
    CONCLUSIONS: This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the history and development of TyG index research spanning about 10 years. Based on data analysis, it has been found that the clinical application of the TyG index, particularly how to use this index to improve patient management and prognosis, may serve as a future development focus.

      The current debate in science funding of early-career researchers is shifting from exploring its effects on future outcomes to understanding who is more likely to benefit from it. In this paper, we explore the effect of research funding among male and female applicants. Using propensity score weighting on data from the Medical Research Council in the United Kingdom, we examine the effect on research income, scientific productivity (publications), as well as scientific influence (citations, relative citation ratio, field citation ratio and Altmetrics score). Successful applicants in both groups secure more future research funding than unsuccessful ones. In addition, successful female applicants receive more citations and are better cited in their field than female applicants who did not receive funding. There is no statistically significant difference in scientific productivity or influence between successful and unsuccessful male applicants.

       OBJECTIVE: Medical Ethics integrates scientific approaches from ethics, philosophy, religious studies, history, and sociology into all relevant fields and subdisciplines of medicine, biomedicine, and healthcare. However, there is a lack of detailed analysis of research activity and networking of peer-reviewed research in Medical Ethics.
    METHODS: Consequently, this study employs established bibliometric methods to examine the chronological, geographical, and thematic patterns of global research, as well as network structures, by analyzing metadata retrieved from the Web of Science.
    RESULTS: The analysis identified a total of 11,663 articles published in journals in the field of Medical Ethics. The number of articles peaked slightly in 2015 but remained more or less constant otherwise. From a global perspective, the USA was the dominant country in absolute numbers, followed by China and Japan. By contrast, the European countries Sweden, Austria, and Norway were positioned first when the research activity was related to the population size. Large parts of Africa, South Asia, and South America/Caribbean are virtually not present in the global landscape of Medical Ethics research, although these areas offer many open questions. Although a far-reaching, global network has been established, networking primarily takes place among English-speaking countries such as the USA, the UK, Canada, and Australia, while developing countries in particular are underrepresented.
    CONCLUSIONS: The growth in publication numbers is not as steep as in other fields and is imbalanced from a global viewpoint. Therefore, countries with weaker economies should be systematically encouraged to participate in international research collaborations.

       Introduction: Gender equity in scientific research, especially in Physiotherapy, reveals significant underrepresentation of women, affecting career advancement, salary, and research recognition. This study aims to examine the characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and productivity of Physiotherapy researchers in Italy, focusing on gender distribution.
    Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on Italian Physiotherapists who either have a PhD or are currently enrolled in PhD programs.We used a survey consisting of 62 items that explored demographic and educational characteristics, research experience, work-life balance, attitude and social norms, and career-related factors. Performance metrics included H-index, number of publications (during PhD and in the whole career), and awards.
    Results: Of the 167 Physiotherapists surveyed, 102 participated. Female participants reported worse attitudes and social norms perception, and during their PhD, were less satisfied with work conditions compared to males. Females reported a median of 3 publications during their PhD, and males 5. However, after adjusting for age, time invested in research, and whether the interviewee lives with a partner, age remains the only associated factor. There is no evidence of an association between gender and H-index or awards.
    Conclusion: Gender-based disparities in research attitudes exist in Physiotherapy, particularly during the PhD phase, favoring males. Further research is needed to promote gender equity.

      Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate disparities in gender and racial/ethnic representation among otolaryngology faculty and assess how these demographics correspond with academic rank, research productivity, and institutional diversity initiatives. Methods This is a cross-sectional analysis. Faculty from 102 otolaryngology residency programs were reviewed between May and June 2024 using public registries. Data included demographics, academic title, leadership roles, and research productivity. Generalized estimating equations were employed to assess associations between race/ethnicity, gender, and career outcomes, adjusting for confounders. Results Of the 1,802 identified faculty, 118 (6.6%) identified as underrepresented in medicine and 536 (29.8%) were female. Faculty underrepresented in medicine demonstrated fewer citations (adjusted mean ratio [AMR] = 0.68, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.49-0.93), but other productivity and advancement metrics were comparable to non-underrepresented peers. Female faculty had fewer years in practice (AMR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.58-0.72), lower h-index (AMR = 0.76, 95% CI 0.69-0.85), fewer publications (AMR = 0.64, 95% CI 0.54-0.76), and fewer citations (AMR = 0.69, 95% CI 0.54-0.87). Institutions with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives demonstrated increased female-to-male faculty ratios (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 1.33, 95% CI 1.07-1.65), though no association was observed for those identified as underrepresented in medicine. Conclusion While faculty underrepresented in medicine remain few in academic otolaryngology, those in faculty positions achieve comparable career outcomes. Female otolaryngologists experience disparities in productivity and academic advancement. Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are associated with greater gender parity but require targeted expansion to address racial/ethnic advancement.

       Introduction: National research evaluation systems often rely on publication-based metrics that equate productivity with performance while overlooking scientific leadership and research integrity. This study examines the Peruvian National Registry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (RENACYT) to inform a more multidimensional framework for research evaluation.
    Materials and methods: An observational, non-experimental, and analytical study was conducted using data from RENACYT, Scopus, and SciVal for 9,651 researchers during 2019-2024. Four dimensions were assessed across hierarchical levels: scientific production, journal-based impact (Q1-Q4), corresponding authorship as a proxy of leadership, and retractions as indicators of research integrity. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, repeated-measures tests, and count regression models (Poisson, negative binomial, and zero-inflated specifications) were applied.
    Results: A total of 92,284 publications were identified. Productivity increased across RENACYT levels (3.9 publications in Level VII vs. 62.5 in Distinguished; F = 1,162.572, p < 0.001), although with substantial within-level dispersion and differentiated temporal trajectories (Time × Level: F = 44.662, p < 0.001). Higher levels concentrated Q1 output (30.8 vs. 0.7 articles per author; F = 1,090.183, p < 0.001), while differences became less pronounced in Q3-Q4 journals. Corresponding authorship increased with level (β = 1.624 for Level I, p < 0.001) but remained heterogeneous even among top categories. Retractions were positively associated with productivity (coef. = 0.013, p < 0.001) reflecting differential exposure to integrity-related risks rather than uniform patterns across levels.
    Conclusion: RENACYT captures gradients in productivity and quality but insufficiently differentiates leadership and integrity. These findings support the proposal of a hybrid evaluation framework integrating productivity with explicit recognition of intellectual leadership and research integrity.

       INTRODUCTION: Over the past decade, the number of women in surgery has increased. We aimed to assess whether these gender trends were similarly reflected across all types of surgical research.
    METHODS: We reviewed abstracts accepted for oral presentations at the Academic Surgical Congress from 2015 to 2025 and compared differences in senior authors' gender across basic/translational, clinical/outcomes, and education research. Our primary outcome was female representation across research types. Our secondary outcome was female representation over time.
    RESULTS: A total of 2504 abstracts were included in our analysis. Women comprised about 24% of all senior authors and increased from 20% in 2015 to 36% in 2025; however, this change was not uniform across surgical research types. Women were underrepresented in basic/translational science (18.2%) compared to clinical/outcomes (24.1%) and education research (41.9%; P < 0.001). Compared to men, women were significantly more likely to author clinical/outcomes (odds ratio: 1.38, 95% confidence interval: 1.08-1.78, P = 0.012) and education abstracts (odds ratio: 2.99, 95% confidence interval: 2.07-4.33) than basic/translational science abstracts. Women senior authors were younger in academic age than men (median years since graduation: 18.0 versus 21.3, P < 0.001). After adjusting for authors' academic age, women remained significantly less likely to author abstracts in basic/translational science than education. Women were also less likely to have abstracts in more than one category of research or to have multiple abstracts presented.
    CONCLUSIONS: There is a relative paucity of women senior authors compared to men, especially in basic/translational science research. Future studies are needed to better understand and address the causes of this disparity.

       PURPOSE: Workplace inclusion has gained prominence in autism-employment research, but it remains unclear whether it represents an extension of outcome-focused scholarship or a structurally distinct subdomain. We examined whether the two traditions can be consistently distinguished across bibliometric dimensions, and whether inclusion-oriented growth exceeds overall expansion of autism research output.
    METHODS: A comparative bibliometric study used two curated corpora retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science (February 23, 2026): inclusion-oriented (INCL; n = 514) and outcome-oriented (OUT; n = 310), totaling 824 unique publications after deduplication. Structural differentiation was examined using document-level bibliographic coupling with Louvain community detection, complemented by modularity and cluster-corpus association tests. Author, journal, and keyword overlap were quantified using Jaccard indices. Annual counts were normalized against total ASD publication output in Scopus.
    RESULTS: The coupling network yielded 22 clusters (Q = 0.426). Cluster membership was strongly associated with corpus affiliation, χ²(21) = 105.87, p < .001, Cramér's V = 0.556. Author overlap was low (J = 0.057), journal overlap modest (J = 0.179), and keyword overlap moderate (J = 0.26). The inclusion-oriented share of ASD output grew approximately 4.1-fold from 2011 to 2015 to 2021-2025, against 1.6-fold for outcome-oriented research and 2.4-fold for the broader field.
    CONCLUSION: Multiple bibliometric indicators consistently differentiate outcome-oriented and inclusion-oriented corpora, indicating distinct but conceptually adjacent strands of scholarship. Inclusion-oriented research has grown at a rate substantially exceeding overall field expansion.        BACKGROUND: This study investigated long-term publication trends and thematic evolution in the Journal of Yeungnam Medical Science (JYMS) using bibliometric and text mining approaches.
    METHODS: Publication metadata from JYMS articles published between 1986 and 2025 were analyzed. Author keywords were preprocessed through normalization and stopword removal. Furthermore, keyword frequency analysis, word clouds, trajectory heatmaps, thematic evolution analysis, burst keyword analysis, and keyword co-occurrence network analysis were conducted using Python-based bibliometric methods.
    RESULTS: A total of 1,760 articles were analyzed. The average number of keywords per article increased from 1.5±1.7 (1986-1995) to 3.8±1.4 (2016-2025). Earlier decades were characterized by keywords related to pregnancy, psychiatry, and disease-specific topics, whereas recent years demonstrated the increasing prominence of imaging-, metabolic-, and outcome-related research. Coronavirus disease 2019 emerged as the most prominent recent burst keyword. Co-occurrence network analysis demonstrated increasing interdisciplinary connectivity, with imaging-related keywords occupying central network positions.
    CONCLUSION: Over the past four decades, JYMS publications have demonstrated progressive thematic diversification and increased interdisciplinary integration. Bibliometric and text mining analyses may provide valuable information on the journal's future research directions and academic development.

       BACKGROUND: With the global prevalence of obesity, researches on metabolic bariatric surgery for patients with obesity and end-stage liver disease that require liver transplantation has gained increasing attention.
    AIMS: This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of metabolic bariatric surgery for patients with obesity and end-stage liver disease that require liver transplantation from 1900 to 2025 to identify major contributors and current research status, and to look forward to the research trends and future development prospects in this field.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 121 relevant articles from 1 January 1900 to 5 February 2025 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. VOS viewer and Cite Space were utilized as bibliometric tools to analyze and visualize knowledge mapping.
    RESULTS: A total of 121 publications were identified, 24 nations/regions participated in this field, with 695 scholars from 91 institutions. Mayo Clinic (USA) dominates with 13 publications and 516 citations; UC San Francisco (6 pubs, 416 cites) and the University of Toronto (2 pubs, 205 cites, over 100 cites per pub) excel in quality. The top 10 features 7 US institutions, plus ones from Canada, Europe, and South America, forming the field's high-impact core cluster.
    CONCLUSIONS: Our study analyzes 121 publications (1997-2025) on liver transplantation and metabolic bariatric surgery. The field is dominated by U.S. institutions, particularly the Mayo Clinic. Researches mainly focus on following areas: surgical timing (before, during, or after transplantation), management of post-transplant obesity, liver status, donor applications, and obesity-related liver diseases. Current evidence mainly limited to retrospective studies and case reports with small sample sizes. Future work requires prospective, multi-center trials and an international registry to establish standardized guidelines for this evolving field.

       Introduction: This study analyzes the literature on academic book publishing in Ibero-America indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, with the aim of describing its evolution and mapping co-occurrence and co-authorship networks to identify the current state of the field and existing gaps.
    Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Records were managed with Rayyan and analyzed using VOSviewer and R, incorporating thematic analysis of 44 selected studies.
    Results: The findings show a stronger concentration of publications in the last decade and an emerging field focused on editorial practices, open access, editorial professionalization, evaluation, and indicators. Co-authorship is concentrated in a few centers, and structural limitations persist that hinder robust comparisons.
    Discussion: The results highlight tensions in integrating books into scientific evaluation systems and in recognizing scientific development in areas of knowledge where books remain central. The study identifies gaps in the contextualization of evaluation frameworks that recognize the linguistic and publishing diversity of the Ibero-American region, calling for the consolidation of regulatory evaluation frameworks that strengthen scientific quality in academic publishing.

      The Integrity Risk Indicators by SCImago (IRIS) framework, developed by the SCImago Research Group, addresses growing concerns about trust in science by shifting research assessment from traditional output and citation-based measures toward the evaluation of institutional exposure to research integrity risks. Rather than focusing on individual misconduct, IRIS recognizes the central role of institutional incentive systems, governance structures, and operational cultures in shaping research integrity. IRIS provides a constructive, data-informed model for identifying structural vulnerabilities associated with practices such as authorship and affiliation patterns, dissemination and citation dynamics, publication venue credibility, and the sustainability and transparency of publication practices. The indicators are derived from bibliometric and publication data and are intended as signals of potential risk, not as diagnoses or judgments. Applied to Higher Education Institutions included in the SCImago Institutions Rankings, IRIS enables meaningful comparison through z-score normalization, placing heterogeneous indicators on a common, interpretable scale centered on the global mean. The use of standardized scores enhances sensitivity to the magnitude of deviations, allowing IRIS to better function as a risk detection system, rather than a competitive ranking, and to support institutions in strengthening responsible and trustworthy research environments.

      Gender disparities in research trial leadership have been reported in nearly every medical specialty. The true extent of women's involvement as principal investigators (PIs) in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) research trials remains unknown. The current study aims to address this knowledge gap through analyzing relevant trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov in the 21st century. A validated search strategy, comprising procedure names and field-specific terms, was utilized to identify OMS research trials. The analysis was limited to trials where at least one PI was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or an OMS department-affiliated researcher. Trial characteristics, including study type, phase, funding status, and investigator details were extracted from records. PI gender was determined using Genderize.io. Overall, men occupied 73.7% of PI positions for OMS research trials, and women 26.3%. Linear regression analysis revealed a significant yearly increase in proportion of women PIs over time. Geographically, women PI representation was highest in African (predominantly Egypt) and Asian institutions, and lowest in European and North American institutions. Relative to other phases, women PIs were significantly more likely to lead Phase 3 trials and less likely to lead Phase 2 trials compared to men PIs. While government funding patterns were similar between genders, women PIs were significantly less likely to lead industry-funded trials. Despite recent improvements, women remain underrepresented in OMS research trial leadership, especially in North American institutions. Targeted interventions and cultural shift are essential to fostering gender-based parity in this domain.

       OBJECTIVE: Postoperative delirium (POD) remains a prevalent, complex complication in hospitalized older adults, yet its multifactorial pathogenesis and optimal management strategies elude definitive characterization. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of POD research over the past two decades to identify publication trends, collaborative networks, and major thematic areas.
    METHODS: We conducted a systematic bibliometric analysis of English-language POD publications in the Web of Science Core Collection from January 2004 to August 2024. A rigorous multistage screening process was implemented using advanced analytical tools, including CiteSpace and VOSviewer.
    RESULTS: The analysis encompassed 1937 articles from 65 countries, with annual publication output accelerating significantly after 2019. China ranked first in publication volume, whereas the United States had the highest citation count and total link strength, indicating greater centrality in the international collaboration network. Co-citation and keyword analyses identified four major research domains: characteristics, mechanisms, prediction, and interventions. Recent growth has concentrated in prediction-oriented and biomarker-related research.
    CONCLUSION: This bibliometric study elucidates the dynamic evolution of POD research, highlighting growing interest in predictive analytics and mechanistic biomarker research as potential priorities for future investigation. These findings not only inform targeted future investigations but also guide the development of interdisciplinary strategies to improve diagnostic precision and therapeutic interventions for acute neurocognitive dysfunction in older surgical populations.
